Applications open for three MLA directors

Beef Central, 09/05/2014

mlablockw-namergbApplications are being sought for three non-executive Directors to be appointed to the Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) Board at this year’s Annual General Meeting.

The MLA Board is a skills-based Board, which requires a range of expertise in: corporate governance, livestock production, business management, finance, international marketing and research and development.

The role of the MLA Board is to provide direction to the management of the company, ensuring that appropriate performance goals are set and achieved, risk is properly managed, and the interests of industry stakeholders are taken into account. This includes strategy development and review of governance, financial performance and risk management.

For 2014 applications are sought from prospective candidates who have the skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

Extensive commercial experience in Northern Australia beef production, with an understanding of R&D and new technology (including drivers of eating quality) to take the industry forward

Extensive commercial experience in Southern Australia sheepmeat production systems, with an understanding of the application of genetics, as well as the supply/value chain

Strong financial skills with audit and risk management experience and an understanding of issues relevant to international operations

Nominees will be subject to a thorough selection process, where the Selection Committee, assisted by an external Board recruitment consultant, considers nominations, conducts interviews and then endorses candidates for election to the MLA Board of Directors. They are then put forward to the AGM for election by MLA members.

The Selection Committee comprises three members directly elected by producer members of MLA, three members appointed by the producer peak councils and three existing MLA Directors who are not standing for election this year.

MLA is a producer-owned company which provides marketing and research and development services for Australia’s cattle, sheep and goat industries. MLA works in partnership with industry and government to create opportunities to achieve a profitable and sustainable red meat and livestock industry in Australia.
