RED meat industry stakeholders from across the Darling Downs gathered at Toowoomba’s Wellcamp Airport last week for a Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE)/Food Leaders Australia Meat Up, co-hosted by the Red Meat Advisory Council (RMAC).
The networking event was held in conjunction with regional workshops being hosted by RMAC to develop the Meat Industry Strategic Plan 2030 (MISP) over 25–27 June.

Food Leaders Australia general manager Bruce McConnel and NH Foods Oakey Beef Exports general manager and AMPC processor director Pat Gleeson.
“The Meat Up Event has provided the perfect opportunity for the broader business community to connect with government and industry leaders within the Red Meat Sector,” Food Leaders Australia General Manager Bruce McConnel said.
“Having the Red Meat Advisory Council hold their strategy sessions and board meeting within Toowoomba again showcases the importance of the regions producers and processors to the national red meat industry.”
Matt Norton, Rural Planning Lead from Premise, said the event provided exceptional access to senior red mea tindustry leaders.
“The access it gave to the most senior people in the Queensland red meat industry was phenomenal. I don’t think I’ve seen that many industry leaders in the one place at the one time and all open to chat.”
In the second half of July RMAC is taking MISP 2030’s emerging themes and programs to six diverse locations around Australia:
- Albury-Wodonga + surrounding region, 11 July
- Murray Bridge or Adelaide Hills + surrounding region, 16 July
- Perth + surrounding region, 18 July
- Townsville + surrounding region, 23 July
- Dubbo + surrounding region, 25 July
- Longford + surrounding region, 25 July
At each region, RMAC will seek out everyday people from across the supply chain to road-test if the ideas in the emerging strategic plan resonate with the industry at a grass roots level.
