Quality over quantity, says Jobs Central advertiser

Place a recruitment ad for a beef industry job on a dedicated national jobs website like ‘Seek’, and it will inevitably deliver volume in terms of applications.

But while placing the same ad on Beef Central’s ‘Jobs Central’ recruitment page might not deliver the same number of applicants that a mass-market site like ‘Seek’ does, it tends to deliver candidates of genuine quality.

That’s been the experience of Consolidated Pastoral Company, one of the nation’s largest beef producers, which has successfully used Beef Central’s online recruitment classifieds page for a number of vacancies over the past six years. CPC runs a herd of 390,000 cattle across 19 properties stretching from northern WA to southern Queensland.

Chief executive officer Troy Setter told Beef Central that while other online advertising options like ‘Seek’ had their place in putting a job prospect in front of the broadest possible recruitment audience, it wasn’t uncommon to get a long list of applicants, including many from overseas, who lacked any real skill-set to fill the advertised position.

“In contrast Beef Central typically delivers fewer applicants than Seek – but we see a clear trend where they tend to be genuine, eligible, strong candidates,” he said.

Beef Central often sees advertisers using both channels – ‘Seek’ to target the broadest possible audience of job-seekers, and ‘Jobs Central’ to deliver a much more highly-targeted, industry-focussed audience.

Since its launch as a new feature on Beef Central in 2012, the Jobs Central recruitment listings platform has been used successfully to fill vacancies across the entire beef supply chain, from positions in the extensive grazing and feedlot industries, to jobs in processing, agribusiness, export marketing, regulatory roles, service delivery and other industry fields.

Advertising a jobs vacancy on Jobs Central is highly cost-effective, delivering a four-week exposure for just $195+GST. That’s just a fraction of the cost of many other online and print media classified channels.
