Young steer and heifer prices struggle in an oversupplied market

Among larger lines offered this week, these 128 Angus feeder steers in store condition 387kg at 14-20 months from Longreach, western Qld made 270c/kg or $1045.

 

AUCTIONSPLUS commercial cattle listings this week were stable at 9712 head, while clearance slipped 6 percentage points to 40pc.

Heifers mostly lost the gains of last week except the 280-330kg category, while steers also struggled in an oversupplied market.

Steers 200-280kg registered a larger offering of 1456 head and averaged 302c/kg, down 4c/kg on last week for a 62pc clearance. Prices ranged from 233-332c.

From Rolleston, QLD a line of 133 Santa steers 7-12 months averaging 226kg returned $750/head or 332c/kg and will travel to a buyer in Yarrawonga, VIC.

Steers 330-400kg registered a larger offering of 1406 head and averaged 269c/kg, down another 22c/kg or $76 from last week for a 21pc clearance. Prices ranged from 229-370c. From Jugiong, NSW 34 Angus steers 12-14 months averaging 374kg returned $1060 or 283c/kg and will travel to a buyer in Wombat, NSW.

Heifers 200-280kg registered a larger offering of 1240 head and averaged 230c/kg, up 11c/kg from last week for a 64pc clearance. Prices ranged from 169-281c.

From Boggabri, NSW 110 Angus heifers 7-10 months averaging 237kg returned $540 or 228c/kg. A further 186 of their lighter heifer sisters 278kg and 303kg made 225c/kg and 213c/kg.

Heifers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 1160 head and averaged 259c/kg, up 33c from last week for a 34pc clearance. Prices ranged from 160-380c. From Dargo, VIC 30 Angus heifers 10-12 months averaging 300kg returned $910 or 303c/kg.

From Boggabri, NSW, these 110 Angus heifers 7-10 months averaging 237kg returned $540 or 228c/kg. A further 186 of their lighter heifer sisters 278kg and 303kg made 225c/kg and 213c/kg

Breeding females

NSM heifers & calves registered a smaller offering of 265 head and averaged $1395/head – down $164 from last week for an 89pc clearance.

From Timor, NSW 51 Angus heifers 2.5 years averaging 390kg with calves at foot returned $1420/head, $420 over the reserve.

    Each week its different high week. Next week its lower. It depends on who turns up to bid

      NSW is in Australia. This is misleading The US has record low numbers of cattle last I read.
