CATTLE listings lifted 12 percent total 6151 head on AuctionsPlus last week, with young heifers continuing to strengthen in price and young steer categories mostly firm on earlier gains.
The slightly larger offering was met with similar competition to last week with clearance falling to 76pc.
Of significant note this week was the number of heavier lines of steers offered with 903 head, or 33pc of the total offering, being made up of 400kg+ lines.
Price rises were led by the heavier end of the market with heifers over 400kg rising $234 on last week, although competition was stronger for the lighter end where the limited amount of heifers and steers under 200kg attracted a 100pc clearance.
Steers 200-280kg registered a larger offering of 643 head, compared to 475 the week before and averaged 280c/kg, up 32c on the previous week, for a 91pc clearance. Prices ranged from 143-315c.
From Glen Alice, NSW 67 weaned Angus steers 8-10 months averaging 219kg returned $690/head or 315c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Glenrowan West, VIC. A further 28 of their heifer sisters 163kg made 245c/kg
Steers 280-330kg averaged 248c, down 5c on the previous week.
Steers 400kg and above registered a larger offering of 903 head and averaged 229c/kg, down 1c from the previous week for a 76pc clearance. Prices ranged from 156-247c. From Goulburn, NSW 80 Angus steers 13-14 months averaging 437kg returned 240c/kg and will travel to a Queensland pastoral company.
Heifers
Heifers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 907 head and averaged 267c/kg – up 64c from the previous week for a 88pc clearance. Prices ranged from 140-339c. From Scone, NSW 87 Hereford heifers 15-20 months averaging 289kg returned $700 or 242c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Goondiwindi, QLD.
Heifers 330-400kg registered a larger offering of 383 head and averaged 263c/kg – up 66c from the previous week, for a 65pc clearance. Prices ranged from 186-304c. From Carinda, NSW 148 Angus heifers split in two even lots 12-13 months averaging 339kg returned $1030/head or 304c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Korumburra, VIC.
Breeding females
PTIC cows registered a larger offering of 415 head and averaged $1361/head – up $483 from last week for a 77pc clearance. Forty five percent of the offering came from one vendor in Coleambally, NSW. One of these lots comprised 44 Angus cows aged 32-36 months averaging 545kg and returning $1530/head. They will travel to a buyer near Meningie, SA.
Station-mated cows & calves registered a larger offering of 364 head and averaged $1082 – down $184 from last week for a 29pc clearance. From Tara, QLD 23 Angus cows 18-30 months averaging 370kg returned $770/head, and will travel to a buyer near Tara, QLD.
