Young cattle values continue to push higher, in another record AuctionsPlus offering

The AuctionsPlus c/kg record was broken again this week, this time for this line of 92 Santa EU-eligible weaned steers, 5-6 months averaging 158kg, from Consuelo Cattle Co, Rolleston, Central Queensland, for which buyers paid 689.9c/kg, or $1009 a head.

YOUNG cattle values continued to track higher in another record-setting offering on AuctionsPlus this week.

With more rain falling across large parts of NSW, Queensland and Victoria, cattle numbers were up by 116 head for a total offering of 24,041 head. Southern Queensland buyers again bought up big, accounting for 4037 head, with 50pc of their purchases being yearling and grown steers. The NSW Northwest Slopes and Plains buyers were also prominent, buying weaner steers, with the Central Western buyers their main competition.

In what has been a three-week sequence of record-setting, the AuctionsPlus c/kg record was broken again, this time for a line of 92 Santa cross EU-eligible weaned steers, 5-6 months averaging 158kg, from Consuelo Cattle Co, Rolleston, Central Queensland, for which buyers paid 689.9c/kg, or $1009 a head.

It broke the previous week’s record of 686.3c/kg for a line of Santa heifers 3-5 months averaging 122kg, from Goondiwindi, southern Queensland.

More than 1300 PTIC heifers were offered this week, seeing a 76pc clearance. Prices ranged from $1310 to $2350, averaging $1923, up $188. Top price went to a line of Dulverton and Eaglehawk blood Angus heifers from Wollen Partnership, Glen Innes, NSW. These heifers were 20-24 months, averaging 424kg and are PTIC to Angus bulls. Other highlights included a line Angus cross heifers, 18-20 months averaging 402kg and are PTIC to Angus bulls from Walcha, NSW which sold for $2140. From Camperdown, VIC a line of Angus heifers, 20-22 months, 538kg and PTIC to Angus bulls sold for $2000.

More than 1500 PTIC cows were offered this week, seeing a 68pc clearance. Prices ranged from $1410 to $2310, averaging $1906, jumping by $353 on last week. Top price was shared by two lines offered by Big Top Trust, Hernani, NSW. The first line was three-year-old Angus cows, bred from Rennylea bloodlines, averaging 452kg and PTIC to Angus bulls. The second line was five-year-old Angus cows, 556kg and PTIC to Angus bulls. From the same vendor, a line of Yamburgan blood Shorthorn cows, five years, averaging 523kg, PTIC to Angus bulls sold for $2070.

Other highlights included a line of Santa cross and crossbred cows, 3-9 years, averaging 503kg and PITC to Santa bulls from Injune, QLD which sold for $1540.

More than 1000 cow and calf units were offered this week, producing a 80pc clearance. Prices ranged from $1390 to $3475, averaging $2384, jumping $283 on last week. Top price went to Calview Pastoral, Laceby, VIC offering a line of 44 Te Mania and Lawson blood cows, 3.5 years averaging 542kg and PTIC to Angus bulls. The Angus calves at foot were 5-7 months averaging 218kg.

Other highlights included a line from Nagambie, VIC of Rennylea and Te Mania blood cows, 4-5 years averaging 519kg and PTIC to Charolais bulls. The Angus calves at foot were 5-6 months averaging 193kg, selling for $3050.

From Gloucester, NSW a line of 3-4 year old Charolais x Angus cows, 532kg, with Black Limousin calves at foot and joined to Black Limousin bulls, sold for $3000. From Roma, QLD a line of Droughtmaster cows, 3-9 years averaging 454kg, with calves at foot and joined to Droughtmaster bulls sold for $2540.

Team Te Mania held a large commercial special sale this week with a 100pc clearance over 743 head. The average for the auction was $2353 with the top price of $2825 coming for two lots offered by Michael Carroll, Widgeegonga Angus, Victoria. The first consisted of 26 PTIC cows scanned and drafted for heifer in-utero calves (click here to see last week’s article on this) from sires Te Mania Naturalism and Nestor, averaging 503kg, with an age break-up of 2.4-2.6 years. A second line also selling for $2825 saw a line of 15 NSM cows and 13 calves from sires Te Mania Kokoda and Magnetic, averaging 598kg at 3-4 years.

Another vendor, Coomete Pty Ltd, Hexham sold 86 PTIC heifers 17-18 months averaging 371kg averaging $2513 over two lots.

Light steers less than 200kg sold from 469c to a new AuctionsPlus record high for non-Wagyu cattle of 690c, averaging 592c, up 88c. The record top price went to a line of 92 Santa EU-eligible steers 5-6 months averaging 158kg from Consuelo Cattle Co, Rolleston, QLD. Another line of 140 Santa weaned steers from the same vendor, identical description, made 683.5c, while 204 of their heifer sisters, 147kg, averaged 632c/kg.  Other weaned steer category highlights included:

  • EU Angus steers, 5-6 months, 157kg, from Berridale, NSW selling for 598c
  • Angus steers, 5-6 months, 166kg, from Canyonleigh, NSW selling for 576c
  • EU Red Angus & Red Angus X, 5-7 months, 197kg, from Crookwell, NSW selling for 534c

Steers 200-280kg sold from 158c to 596c this week, averaging 480c, up 21c. Top price went to a line of Millah Murrah blood Angus steers 5-7 months averaging weigh 216kg from G Nock, Bathurst, NSW.

Other highlights included:

  • EU Simmental cross and Poll Hereford cross steers, 6-7 months, 212kg from Molong NSW selling for 563c
  • Angus steers, 6-7 months, 235kg from Holbrook, NSW selling for 558c
  • Angus cross steers, 7-8 months, 218kg from Thallon, QLD selling for 555c

Steers 280-330kg sold from 127c to 525c this week, averaging 439c, up 28c. Top price went to a line of Hazeldean blood Angus steers 8-9 months averaging 305kg from BirdgeLane Bundarloo P/L, Jugiong, NSW.

Other highlights included:

  • EU Dulverton Blood Angus steers, 14-16 months, 282kg, from Armidale, NSW selling for 515c
  • Angus steers, 8-10 months, 312kg from Goondiwindi, QLD selling for 497c
  • Angus steers, 14-18 months, 280kg from Guluguba, QLD selling for 495c

Steers 330-400kg sold from 324c to 474c this week, averaging 406c, up 6c. Top price went to Wattletop blood Angus steers 15-16 months averaging 341kg from Tepa PL, Guyra, NSW.

Other highlights included:

  • Eastern Plains blood Angus steers, 16-20 months, 335kg from Guluguba, QLD selling for 467c
  • Charolais x Hereford steers, 16-20 months, 346kg from Guluguba, QLD selling for 440c
  • Santa and Angus cross steers, 11-16 months, 350kg from St George, QLD selling for 440c
  • EU Angus steers, 11 to 12 months, 337kg from Moyhu, VIC selling for 431c

Heavy steers 400kg+ sold from 392c to 426c this week, averaging 410c, up 35c. Top price went to a line of EU Angus steers 16-18 months averaging 406kg from TRT Pastoral Group, Mansfield, VIC. Other highlights included:

  • Angus steers, 15-17 months, 402kg from Mitchellstown, VIC selling for 420c
  • EU Charolais x Angus steers, 12-13 months, 412kg from Penshurst, VIC selling for 411c
  • Angus and Angus cross steers, 18-19 months, 469kg from Trowutta, TAS selling for 410c

Light heifers less than 200kg sold from 387-634c this week, averaging 518c, up 109c. Top price went to a line of EU Santa and Santa cross heifers 5-6 months averaging 148kg from  Consuelo Cattle Co, Rolleston, QLD.

Other highlights included:

  • Angus heifers, 5-6 months, 162kg from Canowindra, NSW selling for 531c
  • EU Wagyu x Angus F1 heifers, 5-6 months, 154kg from Armidale, NSW selling for 527c
  • Angus heifers, 6-7 months, 194kg from Hobbys Yards, NSW selling for 510c
  • Santa heifers, 4-6 months, 138kg from Goondiwindi, QLD selling for 494c

Heifers 200-280kg sold from 268-524c this week, averaging 412c, up 31c. Top price went to a line of EU Santa x Hereford heifers 7-11 months averaging 231kg from B & TM Simcox, Theresa Creek, NSW.

Other highlights include:

  • Angus heifers, 6-7 months, 220kg from Holbrook, NSW selling for 508c
  • Angus and Angus cross heifers, 7-8 months, 202kg from Thallon, QLD selling for 491c
  • Speckle Park cross heifers, 7-11 months, 255kg from Westbrook, QLD selling for 479c

Heifers 280-330kg sold from 292c to 451c this week, averaging 388c, up 3c. Top price went to a line of Angus heifers 14-16 months averaging 282kg from JL & DC Brien, Oberon, NSW.

Other highlights included:

  • Millah Murrah blood Angus heifers, 16-18 months, 291kg from Glen Innes, NSW selling for 450c
  • EU Dulverton blood Angus heifers, 14-16 months, 284kg from Armidale, NSW selling for 434c
  • Angus heifers, 12-14 months, 286kg from Hernani, NSW selling for 433c

Heifers 330-400kg sold from 319c to 454c this week, averaging 386c, up 3c. Top price went to a line of EU Santa x Hereford heifers 16-22 months averaging 346kg from B & TM Simcox, Theresa Creek, NSW. Other highlights included:

  • Hazeldean blood Angus heifers, 17-20 months, 338kg from Nowendoc, NSW selling for 444c
  • Charolais x Angus heifers, 13-15 months, 361kg from Caldwell, NSW selling for 414c
  • EU Simmental x Shorthorn heifers, 8-9 months from Narrabri, NSW selling for 412c

Heavy heifers 400kg+ sold from 336-394c this week, averaging 362, down 10c. Top price went to a line of Pathfinder blood Angus heifers 18-20 months averaging 404kg from Forster Farms, Wepar, SA.

Other highlights included:

  • EU Glenholme and Kirraweena blood Hereford heifers, 16-22 months, 401kg from Adelong, NSW seeling for 382c
  • EU Te Mania and Coolana blood Angus heifers, 19 to 20 months, 410kg from Branxholme, VIC selling for 373c.

Looking to Tasmania, there was 504 head on offer which achieved a 93pc clearance. Highlights from yearling and grown steers included a line offered by Rubyvern from Preston which included weaned Red Angus cross steers, 12-13 months, 266kg selling for 395c. Top price from the yearling and grown heifers also hailed from Preston. The 14 weaned Angus & Angus cross heifers, 11-13 months averaging 282kg sold for 376c. PTIC cows sold from $1110 and $1270 to average $1187. Two lines of Murray Grey cows from the same vendor achieved the top price; averaging 500kg at 2-3 years, and are PTIC to Angus bulls.

The WA sale this week offered 501 head. Weaner heifers averaged 314c/kg, and sold to a top of 329c. This top price went to a line of Angus x Gelbvieh heifers, 7-9 months averaging 319kg from S & T Lonegan, Albany. Weaner steers averaged 349c and sold to a top of 368c. Top price went to a line of Lawson blood Angus steers, five months, averaging 209kg from Collins Bros Grazing, Pemberton. A line of yearling Angus heifers, 16-20 months, 376kg, sold for 291c; a line of Angus feeder steers, 16- 24 months, 376kg sold for 324c; and a line of trade Angus heifers 26-36 months, 322kg/dressed sold for 528c/kg.
