Young cattle show price lift in 7558 head AuctionPlus offering

Part of a run of 204 Charolais cross steers 6-12 months averaging 299kg from Aramac, Central QLD that returned 275c/kg or $815/head on Friday

MOST young cattle and breeder categories showed price improvement on Elders and Nutrien’s AuctionsPlus online marketing last week, despite a 17 percent increase in numbers offered to 7458 head.

The larger offering was met with mixed competition as clearance fell to 57pc.

Steers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 1137 head and averaged 256c/kg, up 1c from the previous week, and achieving a 72pc clearance. Prices ranged from 158-295c/kg.

From Aramac, Central QLD, 204 Charolais cross steers, split across two even lots aged 6-12 months averaging 299kg returned 275 c/kg or $815/head, and will travel to buyers in Wandoan, QLD and Barcaldine, QLD.

Steers 330-400kg averaged 242c/kg, up 13c from last week, registering a larger offering of 1306 head for a 46pc clearance.

Prices ranged from 195-340c. From Walcha, NSW 204 Angus steers, split across two even lots aged 12-13 months and averaging 332kg 271c and 274c/kg and will travel to a buyer in Armidale, NSW

Among heavy feeder steers 400kg+, two pens totalling 102 Angus feeders 487kg at 17-20 months from Hillston in the Riverina made 236.3c/kg live. Two additional pens totalling 160 lighter brothers averaging 418kg were passed in at 220c/kg.

Heifers 200-280kg registered a smaller offering of 560 head and averaged 193c/kg – up 23c from last week for a 74pc clearance. Prices ranged from 163-217c.

From Quilpie, QLD 162 Charolais cross heifers 3-6 months averaging 202kg returned 208c/kg or $420/head, and will travel to a buyer near Roma, QLD.

Heifers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 810 head and averaged 184c/kg, down 9c/kg from the previous week for a 75pc clearance. Prices ranged from 150-248c. From Bridport, TAS 198 Angus heifers split across three lots 12-13 months averaging 304kg will travel to buyers in Herrick, TAS & Glengarry TAS.

Two of the lots returned $550/head, or 181c/kg while the third returned $540/head, or 178c.

Breeding females

PTIC heifers registered a small offering of only 40 head and resulted in a 63pc clearance, while prices averaged $1130/head. From Arthurs Creek, VIC 13 Angus heifers 20-21 months averaging 500kg returned $1240/head.

NSM heifers & calves registered a smaller offering of 386 head and averaged $1634/head – up $190 from the previous week for a 66pc clearance.

From Uralla, NSW 66 Angus cows 22-25 months averaging 384kg returned $1160/head and will travel to a buyer in Tintinara, SA.
