Young cattle continue price surge in larger AuctionsPlus offering

Two lines of 102 Angus steers 11-12 months averaging 320kg from Texas QLD returned $1388 or 434c/kg on Friday. One line will travel to a buyer in Tamworth, NSW and other to Toobeah QLD. A further 250 heavier steer brothers 355-375kg from the same vendor made from 366c to 392c.

Young cattle continued their strong 2024 price rally in online trading last week.

AuctionsPlus offered 11,200 head on Friday, a solid 43 percent lift on the week before, while clearance lifted further to 85pc.

Markets for breeding females were more of a mixed bag, with station mated and PTIC females generally stronger, while females with calves tended to lose some ground.

There were more than 5000 steers offered across sales last week, with the largest offering in the 330-400kg range (+1400) achieving a clearance of 98pc.

Steers in the 330-400kg category averaged 366c/kg, up another 7c/kg on the week before, with prices ranging from 282-403c.

From St George, QLD 91 Angus cross steers 12-15 months averaging 348kg returned 382c/kg or $1330/head, and will travel to a buyer near Upper Bingara, NSW.

The next largest offering was for steers 280-330kg with 1390 head — triple the offering put forward the previous week — averaging 401c/kg, up 13c on the week before,

Prices ranged from 295-439c, while clearance reached 88pc. From Texas, QLD, two lines of 102 Angus steers 11-12 months averaging 320kg returned $1388 or 434c/kg. Steers 200-280kg attracted almost 1100 entries, averaging 403c this week, up 24c, while the heavy feeder steers +400kg, representing an offering of 1066 head, lifted 52c on the previous week to average 348c.

Among larger lines offered last week, 380 Droughtmaster and Droughtmaster cross weaned steers 12-14 months averaging round 270kg from Springsure Central QLD, offered in three lots, made from 390-413c/kg.

Heifers

Female stock joined the market in large numbers last week, with a 50pc rise on offering size to 3410 head.

In particular, the 400kg + category was significantly up, rising 232pc to 378 head. Despite the larger offering, every article sold, and prices lifted by $90 on last week to $1363.

From Cooma, NSW 15 Angus heifers 15-16 months averaging 456kg returned $2220/head or 487c/kg and will travel to a buyer in Bega, NSW.

Heifers 200-280kg attracted 970 entries and averaged 324c/kg, up 26c from last week, for a 85pc clearance. Prices ranged from 237-395c.

From Willow Tree NSW, 29 Angus heifers aged six to eight months averaging 205kg returned $810/head or 395c/kg and will travel to a buyer in Mendooran, NSW.

Heifers 280-330kg continued their strong run in terms of offering, up 50pc to 983 head. Despite the volume increase, clearance reached 87pc. Prices ranged from 245-497c and averaging 321c.

From Meandarra, QLD 56 Angus/Ultrablack heifers 13-15 months averaging 326kg returned 370c/kg or $1205, and will travel to a buyer near Glen Innes, NSW.

Breeding stock

After the previous week’s 40pc increase in offered stock, breeding articles fell back last week in most categories with the exception of PTIC Heifers and station mated cows and calves.

Station-mated cows & calves produced a 76pc clearance, while prices dipped $51 on average to $1809/head. From Upper Horton NSW, 37 Droughtmaster cross cows aged 36-41 months averaging 391kg returned $1740/head and will travel to a buyer near Goondiwindi, QLD.

PTIC heifers registered a larger offering of 1079 head and averaged $1823 – down $68 from last week for a 48pc clearance.

Fourteen Angus PTIC heifers 20-22 months averaging 442kg from Inverell, NSW returned $2500/head and will travel to a buyer from Dee Why, NSW.

    Please note that the top selling heifers in calf were Shorthorn, selling for $2610. Why is this not mentioned?
