Cattle numbers were consistent, with notable improvements in quality, particularly among vendor-bred lines of weaners and yearlings. The supply of well-finished cattle increased, though they remained limited across various categories. The usual buying group was present at the market, with a few buyers holding extra restocking and feedlot orders.

Trade steers and heifers weighing between 400-500 kg sold from 440-547 c/kg. Domestic processors faced tougher competition from feedlots to secure adequate supply, driving them to up the ante. Meanwhile, feeder steers in the 340-400/kg range experienced a price decline of 30c, selling between 430-522c/kg. The medium-weight portion saw a smaller decrease of 12c, fetching prices from 460-536c/kg. In a positive shift, heavy feeder steers 500-600 kg witnessed a significant price jump of 23c, as a major domestic buyer bid aggressively for well-finished types.

Feeder heifers weighing 330-400/kg attracted a larger pool of buyers, resulting in a price increase of 32c, averaging 493c/kg. Medium-weight feeder heifers improved marginally by 5c, selling within the range of 420-512 c/kg. Light weight steers 200-280kg returning back to the paddock sold to strong local competition resulting in a price gain of 25c to average $1285/head. The heifer portion was quite mixed amongst the different breeds averaging $1067/head

In the export market, cattle supply remained limited. Heavy steers suitable for processors 500 to 600kg were priced between 490-534c/kg. It’s worth noting that quality significantly improved compared to the previous sale. Bullocks experienced a substantial gain of 39c, with prices ranging from 470-510 c/kg. The number of cows available this week nearly halved, contributing to a moderate increase in prices. Heavy cows rose by 9c, making from 400-430c/kg, with a standout single cow reaching 440c/kg. Cows weighing under 520 kg sold between 292-392 c/kg.
