Numbers doubled, driven by the dearer prices the previous sale. The quality of cattle remained consistent, with most stock in secondary condition, complemented by a selection of very good grain-assisted yearlings and grown cattle. The usual group of export and domestic processors attended the sale, although not all feedlot orders were active. In contrast, restockers participated strongly across all lightweight categories.
Trade cattle were once again limited, mostly consisting of grain-assisted yearlings. Trade steers and heifers sold within the range of 432-482c/kg. Feeder steers were in high demand across all breeds, with feed steers weighing between 330-400kg surging by 26c, fetching between 446-568c/kg. Medium-weight steers sold from 430-508c/kg. There was significant interest from feedlots and restockers for lighter weight steers, with feedlots paying to 636c/kg, while restockers paid up to 660c/kg. Feeder heifers results were mixed, largely influenced by quality and breed. The bulk of lighter weight heifers, weighing 330-400/kg, made between 370-465c/kg, while medium-weight heifers surged by 21c, selling from 388-475c/kg.
The availability of heavy steers and bullocks suitable for processors was limited, with the majority being grain-assisted. Heavy steers and bullocks were priced between 420-478c/kg. Heavy cows remained firm, with prices easing slightly, making between 402-443c/kg. Cows weighing under 520kg sold within the range of 270-422c/kg.
