Numbers declined moderately. The market showed weaker price trends before gaining some momentum later in the sale. Cows emerged as the weakest link on the day with prices in general falling around 36c/kg. As the sale progressed, prices for cows steadied as more restockers entered the fray. A bigger turnout of buyers attended the sale with a larger group of feedlot buyers also present.
Trade cattle numbers declined and quality slipped to the previous sale. Trade steers and heifers commanded prices ranging from 300c to 352c/kg. Meanwhile, medium-weight feeder steers remained relatively stable, to slightly cheaper for coloured types, prices ranged from 325c and 400c/kg. Light-weight feeder steers 330-400kg experienced a price decline of 17c to average $1352/head. Feeder heifers sold to a smaller group of feedlot buyers resulting in a price drop of 13c with prices ranging from 268c-344c/kg. Well-bred light weight steers 280-330kg slipped 34c fetching 320c-434c/kg.
Heavy steers sold 8c cheaper which was quality related to average 355c/kg. Bullocks also experienced weaker competition, with sales ranging from 330c-386c/kg. Heavy cows sold to erratic bidding at times, with prices now falling between 276-314c/kg. Cows under 520kg sold 27-40c cheaper despite strong restocker competition. The bulk selling from 240c to 258c/kg. Cows returning to the paddock fetched 252-289c/kg.
