Yarding 2000 Change -400

Cattle prices have stepped up at Wagga  pushed along by feedlots who have dominated sales over all classes in the wake of heavy rain across the eastern seaboard.

Price gains of 8-15c were common across medium and heavy steers categories.

Heavy steers 500-600kg to feed on sold  from 410-451 to average $2300

Heavy steers to the processors lifted 9c making 360c to 422c/kg.

Bullocks had a similar price rise selling at 360c to 414c/kg.

Strong price patterns were evident across trade categories and is expected to too remain this way at other selling centres leading into the Easter holidays. Trade steers were in limited numbers and feedlots continually outpaced processors. The pick of the trade steers  posted a 17c gain making  440-460c/kg.

Trade heifers benefited from feedlot demand pushing 8c higher selling at 388-455c/kg.

Weaner steers and heifer suitable for restockers were also in short supply and there were not as  many good lines of well-bred stock on offer

A pen of 217kg Angus steers topped at 630c but generally prices were back 15c/kg. The heifer portion  made to 550c/kg.

The cow market posted gains of 5-pc with the bulk of the offering weighing above 540kg. The main run sold from 293-331c/kg.
