Yarding 5400 Change -1180
Following a significant breakdown earlier today, only a portion of the expected 5300 cattle have been successfully sold.
Despite the challenges, all the usual buying groups were present at the market, along with additional buyers from Queensland.
Early on, agents faced difficulties as they struggled to maintain a continuous flow of cattle over the scales.
Queensland feedlots showed significant interest in steers weighing between 400 to 500kg, resulting in an uptick of 19c for well-bred types.
Prices for these cattle ranged from 300 to 388c/kg. Meanwhile, lighter weights traded between 300 to 376c/kg.
In the trade category, steers 400 to 500kg were sold between 315 to 325c, while trade heifers commanded prices ranging from 290 to 300c/kg. Feeder heifers 470 to 500kg maintained stability, priced between 255 to 309c/kg, while there was a significant dip in price for lighter weights with the bulk averaging 295c/kg.
The cow market hovered around last week’s price margins for heavy cows, with rates ranging from 240 to 266c/kg. Demand from southern domestic processors remained strong, leading to a 5c to 10c increase in prices for heavy steers and bullocks, and fetching between 280 and 326c/kg. Similarly, heavy heifers destined for processors saw a 10-cent gain, commanding prices ranging from 285 to 312c/kg.
