Last week saw a significant price correction, resulting in a marked decrease in supply, nearly halving the number offered.

Despite this, all regular buyers were present at the sale.

However, while there was an increase in feeder orders this week, only the heifer portion saw gains.

The quality of offerings was generally deemed secondary, although there were some outstanding lines of both heifers and steers available.

Herefords and crossbred types found it difficult to attract all buyers with most selling below the 300c/kg mark.

Feeder steer prices remained relatively unchanged, with medium-weight feed steers trading between 236c and 336c, averaging $1,336 for medium weights and $1,082 for lighter weights.

Feeder heifers experienced a slight uptick, gaining between 10c to 20c/kg. Medium-weight feeder heifers topped at 288c/kg, averaging $1,150, while light weights ranged from 230c to 278c/kg.

Trade heifers were sold within the range of 230c to 288c/kg. Restockers were less active this week due to dry conditions. Bulk sales ranged from 330c to 380c/kg, averaging $791/head.

Heavy feed steers maintained their price position, reaching a peak at 324c, while those intended for processors saw a 15c increase, trading between 240c and 326c. Bullocks remained steady, trading between 268c and 308c/kg. Bullocks numbers dropped notably and despite this prices were relatively stable selling at 268c to 308c/kg, averaging $1879/head. In the cow sale, all buyers showed keen interest, with restockers giving priority to younger store types over processors. This shift led to a 15c jump in prices for leaner types, with sales to the pocessors ranging from 180c to 228c/kg. Cows returning to the paddock were sold at 208c to 228c/kg, while heavy, well-finished cows saw a 6c improvement, fetching between 213c and 240c/kg.
