Wagga sale 17 July 2023: Numbers jump significantly

Numbers jumped significantly. There was no upside to the sale, with the market losing value across most categories.

Feedlots buyers were few, and competition fell away if prices for feeder steers lifted beyond 330c/kg.

Demand from exporters for heavy steers and bullocks was subdued with one major local exporter dominating sales.

Cow numbers lifted to 795 head however, all categories sold to weaker demand.

Feeder steers weighing between 400 to 500kg saw 13c wiped off stock returns as demand faltered. The bulk selling from 285c to 340c/kg.

Feeder heifers medium and light weight struggled to attract buyers, with prices dipping 11c to 19c/kg. The majority of the heifers sold from 240c to 280c/kg.

Trade steers and heifers were few, selling from 240c to 350c/kg. In the export sale one processors was again the volume buyer.

Heavy steers sold down to a low of 240c to average 288c/kg. Bullock prices softened 4c to average 278c/kg. Cow numbers lifted and quality was generally very good. Despite some excellent runs of cows price dipped 20c/kg.

Heavy cows selling at 221c to 251c/kg. leaner grades made from 165c to 220c/kg.
