Wagga sale 19 May 2025: Numbers eased, quality mixed

Numbers eased and the quality was mixed. There were good lines of weaners most 230kg to 280kg in weight, yearling feeders were well supplied, and buyers were purchasing most of the yearling regardless of condition which made trade cattle limited. There were only a few prime grown steers and heifers and around 1500 cows were penned with prime heavy cows in reduced numbers.

Weaner steers and heifers returning to the paddock were dearer after falling last week with most of the steers selling between 350c and 432c/kg, heifers also sold to a stronger trend with most sales over 300c and reached 345c/kg. Feeder steers were close to firm with medium weights selling from 350c to 422c and heavy weights also reached 422c/kg. Feeder heifers were firm to 10c cheaper depending on breed with medium weights selling from 290c to 370c and heavy feeders reached 374c/kg. Heavy trade steers were slightly dearer reached 410c and heavy trade heifers sold between 355c and 378c/kg.

Grown steers and bullocks were around 10c dearer selling from 330c to 390c/kg but the better covered heifers eased 5c to 10c with most selling from 320c to 378c/kg. Cows were around firm on the prime heavy weights 245c to 290c/kg and the leaner medium weight 2 score were selling to a stronger trend on quality 194c to 259c/kg.
