Yarding 3465  Change +386

The market saw a moderate lift in numbers, although the quality of stock was largely secondary. There were instances of odd pens that were grain-assisted or finished on crops, but overall, the yarding was characterized by a lack of weight, with only a limited number of cattle exceeding 500kg. Feedlots dominated across all weight classes, with strong competition particularly evident for well-bred Angus steers in the 200-280/kg range. Restockers participated in the market but struggled to compete against the feedlot dominance for the lines of vendor bred stock.

Trade steers and heifers faced robust demand, selling in the range of 410-492c/kg. Feeder steers that were well-bred remained mostly unchanged in price, while coloured cattle and crossbreds saw a decline in interest compared to previous weeks. Medium-weight feeder steers sold for prices between 415-527c/kg. There was notable demand from feedlots and backgrounders for lightweight, well-bred steers, with those weighing 200-280kg fetching prices from 450-615c/kg. The heifer portion sold between 345-462c/kg, and lightweight steers returning to the paddock varied in price greatly, selling from 386-580c/kg.

On the export front, heavy steers and bullocks suitable for processors were scarce, with the bulk selling for prices ranging from 422-464c/kg. Cow numbers reached 502/head, but there was a price correction of 40c and more in places. Heavy cows sold between 360-417c/kg, while leaner cows weighing under 520kg exhibited varying price trends influenced by fat cover. D2 and D3 cows sold for prices ranging from 210-370c/kg.
