Steers and heifers mostly firmer in 14,978 head AuctionsPlus offering

Among larger lines offered this week, 300 weaned Angus steers on four lots ranging from 276kg to 355kg, all 8-9 months from Book Book NSW sold from 396c to 428c/kg.

 

MOST steer and heifer categories recorded price gains in online trading this week, after a period of declines.

AuctionsPlus cattle listings fell by 4pc to 14,978 head this week, with an improved clearance rate of 61pc. Feeder steer and heifer demand lifted, enjoying a 99pc clearance.

All states bar NSW recorded lower offerings this week. NSW producers also purchased almost 2000 more head than last week, with other states recording falls, apart from WA and NT with small purchases.

Steers 200-280kg saw an offering of 1664 head, with average prices lifting 17c/kg to 383c/kg.

The largest category offered this week was steers 280-330kg up 56pc in volume to 2373 head. Prices dropped 12c/kg to 352c, for a 64% clearance. Prices ranged from 127-416c.

From Wagga Wagga, NSW 88 Angus steers 10-14 months averaging 325kg returned 382c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Anakie, VIC.

Steers 330-400kg were down 21pc in offering size to 953 head this week, with average prices lifting a hefty 42c to average 363c/kg. Clearance was a healthy 76pc.

Heifers

It was a mixed bag for heifers with strong price gains for some medium weights, but sizeable drops in others.

Heifers 200-280kg attracted 1473 head, averaging just 269c, reported to be down a massive 406c/kg on last week. No explanation was provided in AuctionsPlus commentary, but looking at prices returned on individual listings this week, the figure looks odd.

Heifers 280-330kg registered a slightly larger offering of 1576 head and averaged 321c/kg, up 47c, for a 59pc clearance. Prices ranged from 242-350c.

From Blackall, QLD 97 Santa heifers 12-20 months averaging 300kg returned 350c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Cobar, NSW.

Among larger lines offered this week, 300 weaned Angus steers on four lots ranging from 276kg to 355kg, all 8-9 months from Book Book NSW sold from 396c to 428c/kg.

A small offering of 670 heifers 330-400kg produced a strong 71pc clearance, averaging 307c, up 34c.

Breeding females

Breeding stock saw price gains across most categories except station-mated heifers, NSM cows and calves and PTIC cows and calves.

PTIC heifers and PTIC cows were the highest offered stock at 1200 head or thereabouts with price gains of $370 and $247 respectively.

From Inverell, NSW ten PTIC Angus heifers 18-19 months averaging 425kg returned $2150 and will travel to a buyer near Rainbow, VIC.

The big jump in price was for NSM heifers and calves which jumped $1435 a head on average across the 244 offered.

From Merriwa, NSW a line of 50 Angus heifers 2-3 years and averaging 515kg, with calves returned $2,900/head and will travel to a buyer near Scone, NSW.
