Smaller 8111 head online offering delivers young cattle price lifts

These 126 Angus PTIC heifers aged 24-26 months averaging 494kg from Adaminaby, NSW returned $1330/head on Friday, going to a buyer near Wodonga, VIC.

MOST young cattle categories saw prices lift in online trading last week, as AuctionsPlus registered a smaller 8111 head offering.

The commercial cattle catalogue was down six percent on the previous week, with the smaller offering met with stronger competition, as clearance rose by 5 percentage points to 59pc.

Steer categories lead the price increases, with all categories posting positive gains. Heavier heifers continued to decline, while breeding stock registered some variable clearance rates and price changes.

Offerings fell for all stock categories except steers which saw a 13pc increase in listings from last week to total 4255 head.

Steers 200-280kg produced a 34c/kg average price rise on the previous week, to 268c/kg.

Steers 280-330kg registered a smaller offering of 1027 head and averaged 244c, up 28c on a week earlier, for a 36pc clearance. Prices ranged from 201-271c.

From Ilfracombe, QLD, 94 Charolais steers 9-12 months averaging 314kg returned 255c/kg $800/head and will travel to a buyer near Roma, QLD.

Steers 330-400kg cleared 68pc, registered a larger offering of 1823 head and averaged 240c/kg – up 19c from the week before. Prices ranged from 191-262c.

A line of 81 Angus steers 12-14 months averaging 362kg from Walcha, NSW, returned 243c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Armidale, NSW.

Heifers

Heifers 200-280kg registered a larger offering of 712 head and averaged 183c/kg, up 2c from the previous week for a 66pc clearance. Prices ranged from 151-224c.

A line of 152 Poll Hereford heifers 8-11 months averaging 263kg from Mitchell, QLD, returned 167c and will travel to a buyer near Oakey, QLD.

Heifers 280-330kg registered a smaller offering of 506 head and averaged 194c/kg, up 12c from the previous week, for a 42pc clearance. Prices ranged from 177-201c. From Ournie, VIC, 78 Angus heifers 13-14 months averaging 314kg returned 201c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Pine Ridge, NSW.

Breeding stock

PTIC heifers registered a larger offering of 284 head and averaged $1325/head, up $252 from last week, for a 54pc clearance. From Adaminaby, NSW, 126 Angus heifers, split into two even lots, aged 24-26 months averaging 494kg returned $1330/head and will travel to a buyer near Wodonga, VIC.
