Selective buying evident in 8505 head AuctionsPlus catalogue

These 92 Angus and Angus x Santa heifers 8-10 months averaging 296kg from Roma, Queensland returned $840/head or 284c/kg on Friday.

CATTLE listings on Elders and Nutrien’s AuctionsPlus online marketing platform lifted one percent last week to 8505 head. Selective buying behaviour led to mixed results, with the clearance slipping to 53pc.

Prices were mixed, with 280-330kg steers seeing a modest 7c/kg gain while heifers in the same weight category slipped 34c. Most breeding females slipped lower.

The market overall continues to track sideways, with all eyes on the lookout for the next market signal likely from seasonal conditions or export demand.

Steers 200-280kg registered a larger offering of 1756 head and averaged 353c – up 2c from last week for a 54pc clearance. Prices ranged from 270-401c. From Glenmorgan, Southern Queensland 100 Angus steers 7-9 months averaging 261kg returned $1040/head or 399c/kg.

Steers 280-330kg registered a smaller offering of 785 head and averaged 366c, up 7c on last week, for a 54pc clearance. Prices ranged from 257-410c.

From Molyullah, NSW 13 Angus steers 10-11 months averaging 311kg returned $1150 or 370c and will travel to a buyer near Lavington, NSW.

Heifers

Heifers 200-280kg registered a smaller offering of 1156 head and averaged 275c – down 19c from last week for a 38pc clearance. Prices ranged from 215-349c.

From Coolah, NSW, two even lines of 106 Angus heifers 10-11 months averaging 255kg returned $720/head or 282c/kg.

Heifers 280-330kg registered a larger offering of 868 head and averaged 290c, down 34c from last week for a 46pc clearance. Prices ranged from 251-315c.

From Roma, Southern Queensland 92 Angus and Angus x Santa heifers 8-10 months averaging 296kg returned $840/head or 284c/kg.

Among larger lines sold this week, 240 Santa and Santa cross heifers in store condition averaging 171kg, in a broad weight range from 4-20 months from Adavale, far western Queensland (pictured below)  made 307c/kg, while a further 106 heifer sisters averaging 280kg aged 7-24 months made 237c/kg. Both lines were described as offering ‘plenty of compensatory gain’ potential.

Breeding stock

Most breeding female categories experienced steep declines this week as restocker demand remains subdued. PTIC heifers registered a smaller offering of 536 head and averaged $1313/head – down $137 from last week for a 36pc clearance.

From Emerald, Central Queensland, 11 Brangus heifers 30-32 months averaging 400kg returned $1500.

PTIC cows registered a smaller offering of 407 head and averaged $1300 – up $69 on last week for a 46pc clearance. From Crookwell, NSW 34 Angus x Hereford cows 36-50 months averaging 577kg returned $1360.
