Roma store sale July 9: Light steers top 194c

A total of 11,000 head of cattle was penned at Roma’s store sale yesterday, where light steers topped at 194c/kg in a generally firming market.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 176c/kg and averaged 155c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 189c/kg and averaged 159c/kg.

Steers 280-350kg reached 194c/kg and averaged 163c/kg, while heavier steers 350-400kg reached 180c/kg and averaged 154c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 177c/kg and averaged 160c/kg.

The Smith family, Openbah, Dirranbandi, sold Euro-cross steers averaging 321kg to 194c/kg  to make $623/head, while the Sorensen family, Beaumont, Injune, sold 294kg Hereford-cross steers to 194c to return $572.

The Thorne family, Holmleigh, Mitchell, sold 285kg average Santa-cross steers to 192c to make $547, and 273kg Santa-cross heifers to 146c to return $399.

Peel Mungerie, Inverness, Blackall, sold Santa-cross steers to 188c for 305kg to make $574. They also sold Charolais heifers to 142c for 261kg to return $371.

The Freeman family, Meeleebee Downs, Wallumbilla, sold Angus-cross steers to 185c for 472kg to make $472. They also sold Hereford-cross heifers to 146c for 245kg to return $358.

The Burey family, Maree Downs, Amby, sold Hereford steers to 180c for 382kg to make $689.

The McWhirter family, Wilbah, Roma, sold Murray Grey-cross steers to 178c for 325kg to return $580.

The Ayers family, Rowland Downs, Roma, sold Charbray steers to 177c for 488kg to make $865.

The Handley family, Eddington, Mungallala, sold Cross Bred steers to 176c for 223kg to make $393.

The Ward family, Karana, Injune, sold Charbray steers to 173c for 483kg to make $838. They also sold Charbray heifers to 155c for 479kg to return $743. 

The Stanford family, Oakwood, Wallumbilla, sold Charolais-cross steers to 171c for 308kg to make $527. They also sold Charolais-cross heifers to 148c for 244kg to return $362.

The Twist family, Juandah Downs, Mungallala, sold Charolais-cross steers to 169c for 306kg to make $518.

The Cloherty family, Reben Downs, Injune, sold Santa steers to 165c for 359kg to make $593. 

Walkaway Beef, Bon Accord, Muckadilla, sold Santa steers to 165c for 241kg to return $398.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 155/kg and averaged 127c/kg, while lighter 280-350kg heifers topped at 148c/kg and averaged 121c/kg.

Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 148c/kg and averaged 128c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 149c/kg and averaged 134c/kg.

R Fawkner, Bonnie Downs, Winton, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 148c for 281kg to return $416.

Bruce Walker, The Farm, Roma, sold Brangus heifers to 147c for 224kg to make $329.

The Smith family, Iona, Wallumbilla, sold Murray Grey-cross heifers to 143c for 333kg to make $478.

The Kersh family, Bora Station, Richmond, sold Santa-cross heifers to 142c for 331kg to make $470.

Killarney Park Grazing, Tambo, sold Santa heifers to 142c for 229kg to make $325.

The Rolfe family, Nindinna, Roma, sold Charolais-corss heifers to 140c for 326kg to return $457.

Clinton Melcer, Myo, Injune, sold Charolais heifers to 139c for 244kg to make $340.

Cows over 500kg hit 140c/kg and averaged 124c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at 131c/kg and averaged 108c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 122c/kg and averaged 94c/kg.

Cows and calves N/A.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 141c/kg and average 121c/kg.
