A total of 11,000 head of cattle was penned at Roma’s store sale yesterday, where light steers topped at 194c/kg in a generally firming market.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 176c/kg and averaged 155c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 189c/kg and averaged 159c/kg.

Steers 280-350kg reached 194c/kg and averaged 163c/kg, while heavier steers 350-400kg reached 180c/kg and averaged 154c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 177c/kg and averaged 160c/kg.

The Smith family, Openbah, Dirranbandi, sold Euro-cross steers averaging 321kg to 194c/kg  to make $623/head, while the Sorensen family, Beaumont, Injune, sold 294kg Hereford-cross steers to 194c to return $572.

The Thorne family, Holmleigh, Mitchell, sold 285kg average Santa-cross steers to 192c to make $547, and 273kg Santa-cross heifers to 146c to return $399.

Peel Mungerie, Inverness, Blackall, sold Santa-cross steers to 188c for 305kg to make $574. They also sold Charolais heifers to 142c for 261kg to return $371.

The Freeman family, Meeleebee Downs, Wallumbilla, sold Angus-cross steers to 185c for 472kg to make $472. They also sold Hereford-cross heifers to 146c for 245kg to return $358.

The Burey family, Maree Downs, Amby, sold Hereford steers to 180c for 382kg to make $689.

The McWhirter family, Wilbah, Roma, sold Murray Grey-cross steers to 178c for 325kg to return $580.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 155/kg and averaged 127c/kg, while lighter 280-350kg heifers topped at 148c/kg and averaged 121c/kg.
