Yarding: 11,082 Change: +2848

A mammoth yarding of just over 11,000 head of cattle did not slow down the competitive buyers’ market at the Roma Saleyards, with bumper prices continuing.

With steers and heifers making up most of the yarding, some categories of steers were up by 20–30 cents on last week’s sale.

All the regular processors, feedlotters, and backgrounders were present and actively bidding on the diverse selection of cattle on offer.

The firm market, quality and reach of cattle yarded once again solidified Roma Saleyards as the marketplace of choice.

The local Maranoa supply district including Mitchell and Wallumbilla made up a significant portion of the yarding as well as the western districts including Charleville and Quilpie.

Multiple runs of cattle were also consigned from as far north as Julia Creek, Boulia and Mount isa and as far south as Manilla and Lightning Ridge, NSW.

Redman Pastoral Company, ‘Wattamolla’ offloaded a quality run of Angus steers and Santa Gertrudis cross steers to average 520c/kg weighing an average 283kg for a return of $1,474/hd.

Based out of Mitchell, a pen of Angus steers fetched 544c/kg to weigh 236kg for a return of $1,285/hd.

A further pen of heavier Angus steers made 504c/kg weighing in at 334kg for an average return of $1,684/hd.

The line was consigned through Elders Roma.

Boxvale cattle co offloaded an extensive run of Santa Gertrudis steers, Angus cross steers and Charolais cross steers.

Operating out of Taroom, the run averaged 525c/kg weighing in at 302kg for a return of $1,584/hd.

Six pens of the Boxvale steers fetched a straight 530c/kg to weigh 301kg to make $1,598/hd.

A pen of the Santa Gertrudis steers making 530c/kg weighed in at 322kg for a top return of $1,705/kg.

A pen of Charolais cross steers sold for 510c/kg weighing 324kg to make $1,652/hd.

The line was consigned through Nutrien. Seen here is livestock agent Jake Robinson.
