Yarding 7700 Change – 2056

A further 7,700 head were yarded at Roma this week. The majority of cattle yarded were from local areas and Western Queensland. Overall quality was very good but most cattle were starting to show the affects of a dry start to winter with restockers preferring to buy out of condition yearlings. Extra restocker support from Central West Queensland helped keep light weight steers firm however light weight heifers eased on previous weeks. Feeder cattle were also lost ground but prime cattle experienced the most significant change easing 20c on most prime classes. Very good quality light weight restocker steers held firm topping at 434.2c to average 394c, and restocker steers 280 to 330kg made to 438.2c to average 379c/kg. Restockers paid up to 394.2c for medium weight steers, while feeder steers made to 372c to average 353c/kg. Heavy feeder steers held firm to slightly cheaper with a top of 368.2c to average 350c/kg. Light weight restocker heifers made to 330.2c however the averages eased by 36c to 274c/kg. Medium feeder heifers made to 301.2c to average 268c and heavy feeder heifers over 400kg topped at an isolated 318.2c/kg. Grown bullocks sold to a top of 301.2c to average 281c/kg. Medium cows to the processor sold to a top of 230.2c to average 211c while heavy cows over 520kg lost 22c, selling to 240.2c to average 228c/kg. Heavy bulls to the processor were the exception gaining 48c on last week selling to a top of 308.2c to average 287c/kg.
