Roma sale 16 May 2023: Restocker competition lifts

Yarding 4900 Change – 2800

Cattle were drawn from the local catchment and south west Queensland, and included some exceptional lines of vendor bred restocker yearlings.

Prices for restocker steers and heifers improved across the board with increased competition from the western downs and local backrounders. Restockers out competed feeders on medium weight steers however heavy feeder steers slipped 5c/kg.

Prime cattle continued to ease with the average price for heavy cows back a further 16c/kg.

Light weight restocker steers saw improvements of up to 10c with the top price to 438.2c with most around 405c/kg. Feature pens of restocker steers were rewarded selling to an isolated 464.2c with most around 400c, up 21c/kg. Restockers paid up to 464.2c for medium weight steer averaging 364c, while feeders paid up to 400c/kg.

A limited number of good quality heavy feeders sold to 358.2c to average 338c/kg. Prices improved by 13c for light weight restocker heifers with a top of 312.2c to average around 288c and restockers heifers 280 to 330kg made to 316.2c averaging 284c/kg. Feeder buyers paid to a top of 292c to average 264c/kg. Heavy heifers to feed over 400kg sold to 304.2c/kg.

Store cows saw a improvement of 11c to a top of 188.2c to average 167c/kg. Medium cows to the processor sold to 211.2c while good heavy 3 score cows over 520kg sold to 225c/kg to average 211c, back 16c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 396c/kg and averaged 361c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 438c/kg and averaged 397c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 464c/kg and averaged 386c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 464c/kg and averaged 354c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topping at 358c/kg and averaging 324c/kg.

MRH Enterprises, Seven Trees, Yuleba sold Angus steers to 438c/kg, reaching a top of $1,184 to average $1,082.

Nixon Pastoral Company, Kenmore, Charleville sold Charolais steers to 438c/kg, reaching a top of $1,164 to average $1,021.

W & K Brown, Booralie, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 428c/kg, reaching a top of $1,301 to average $1,144. The Angus cross heifers sold to 302c/kg reaching a top of $851 to average $741.

F.L & M.R Miller, 644 North Kooringa, Roma sold Angus steers to 426c/kg, reaching a top of $2,079 to average $1,293.

LI Ziesemer Investments Pty Ltd, Yulabilla Road, Condamine sold Angus cross steers to 416c/kg, reaching a top of $1,048 to average $978. The Angus cross heifers sold to 306c/kg reaching a top of $1,050 to average $699.

K.E.G & R.M Burey, Yarara, St George sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 408c/kg reaching a top of $1,454 to average $1,287. The Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold to 280c/kg reaching a top of $1,088 to average $862.

Mark & Jeannie Bowtell, Marra Marra, Jackson sold Brangus cross steers to 408c/kg, reaching a top of $836 to average $800.

Lyndale Grazing 2 Pty Ltd, Lyndale, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 402c/kg, reaching a top of $1,331 to average $1,191. The Angus cross heifers sold to 298c/kg reaching a top of $813 to average $793.

Bullamon Plains Pastoral, Cedervale, Mitchell sold Angus steers to 398c/kg, reaching a top of $1,261 to average $1,172. The Angus heifers sold to 294c/kg, reaching a top of $901 to average $849.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 306c/kg and averaged 280c/kg, while heifers in the 200- 280kg range topped at 312c/kg and averaged 284c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 316c/kg, averaging 273c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 302c/kg, averaging 262c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 304c/kg, averaging 279c/kg. Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 208c/kg and averaged 138c/kg. Cows in the 400- 500kg range topped at 206c/kg, averaging 177c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 215c/kg, averaging 194c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 225c/kg, averaging 205c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to a top of $1,400, averaging $1,012.
