Roma store sale 9 June 2020: Weaner steers top at 474c/kg

TopX Roma agent Sarah Packer with a pen of Culbara steers. The steers sold to 474.2c/kg, reaching a top of $1,396 to average $1,258. The heifers sold to 432c/kg, reaching a top of $1,300 to average $1,125.

Yarding 5542 Change -1758

CATTLE were mostly drawn from the local supply area but the yarding continued to include a fair number from Western and North Western Queensland in a yarding where steers and heifers were present in similar numbers.

The overall quality of the yarding was varied with increased numbers of older steers yarded, however lines of quality local young cattle continued to be well represented, especially heifers.

A good buying panel was present and operating, including all regular processors, and had a continued southern and local restocker presence.

Restockers and feedlots were operating to strong demand with prices reflective of quality.

Medium and heavy weight feeder steers improved from 2c to 10c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg improved from 11c to 54c/kg.

However prices for both heifers and cows were significantly stronger. Heavy weight cows improved in price by 12c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 454.2c to average 454c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers reached a top of 462.2c to average 434c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 474.2c to average 424c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 434.2c to average 405c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 402.2c to average 391c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 446.2c to average 406c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers also made to 444.2c to average 410c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 428.2c to average 395c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to 388.2c to average 358c/kg.

The best of the medium weight grown steers sold to 378.2c to average 363c/kg. Heavy weight grown heifers to slaughter reached a top of 320.2c to average 320c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 288c to average 281c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to a top of 286.2c to average 282c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows reached a top of 296.2c to average 289c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 328.2c to average 310c/kg.

A good number of cows and calves were yarded and reached a top of $2400/unit

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 474c/kg and averaged 393c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 434c/kg and averaged 379c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 402c/kg and averaging 373c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,400/unit.

AK Grazing Pty Ltd, Austral Park, Injune sold Angus cross steers to 454c/kg, reaching a top of $1,048 to average $1,048. The Angus cross heifers sold to 426c/kg, reaching a top of $929 to average $929.
