Roma store sale 9 Feb 2021: Light steer record as market firms

Yarding 6054 Change – 1954

Cattle were drawn from a wider supply area but included some larger local single vendor lines.

The overall quality of the yarding was good however there was an increase in content from the previous week.

A large buying panel was present and included regular processors, feedlots, and local and interstate restockers.

Overall prices remained firm with price variances reflective of quality and content.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg rose by 38c, however light weight yearling steers under 330kg fell by 34c to 43cc/kg. Feeder steers continued to sell to strong demand with medium weight yearling steers to feed up by 2c, and heavy weight feeder steers up by 13c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg fell by 4c, but medium weight yearling heifers under 280kg rose by 7c to 9c/kg. Medium weight cows fell in price by 7c to 9c, while heavy weight cows lost 4c/kg.

Restocker competition was strong on the limited numbers of light weight yearling steers under 200kg which saw a new record for the Roma Saleyards set at 710.2c to average 633c/kg.

A good sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 622.2c to average 561c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 558.2c to average 495c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 502.2c to average 462c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 468.2c to average 457c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 620.2c to average 573c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 602.2c to average 521c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 530.2c to average 483c/kg. A small sample of medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to a top of 478.2c to average 459c/kg. The best of the light weight grown steers sold to 438.2c to average 437c/kg. The best of the grown heifers reached a top of 378.2c to average 370c/kg.

PTIC grown heifers to restockers sold to 484.2c to average 484c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 309.2c to average 297c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 317.2c to average 310c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 335.2c to average 328c/kg.

Cows and calves reached a top of $2240/unit.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 468c/kg and averaging 420c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,240/unit.

Todd Cattle Co, Munnaweena, Mitchell sold Brangus cross steers to 588c/kg, reaching a top of $1,688 to average $1,503.
