Roma store sale 9 Apr 2024: Stronger demand for heavier categories

Yarding: 3635 Change: +2405

With clear blue skies Roma Agents penned 3,635 head an increase of 2,405 on the previous sale.

Cattle were drawn from NSW and SA along with the normal supply districts.

The yarding consisted of more weight which improved average prices.

The heavier categories experienced stronger demand.

Yearling steers 200 to 280kg selling to 452c to average 368c/kg. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg made to 420c and the 330 to 400kg improved by almost 62c selling to 382c to average 361c/kg. Steers over 400kg sold to 362c with an increase of 24c/kg.

Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg averaged 283c topping at 328c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg had an increase of almost 47c selling to 320c/kg. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg to feed made to 324c and averaged 306c/kg. Yearling heifers over 400kg also sold to 324c an improvement of 73c/kg.

The store condition cows met strong demand selling from 102c to 170c/kg.

The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg sold from 200c to 245c/kg. The 3 score cows over 520kg made to 255c to average 241c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls sold to 272c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 310c/kg and averaged 294c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 452c/kg and averaged 356c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 438c/kg and averaged 353c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 382c/kg and averaged 358c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 362c/kg and averaged 348c/kg.

Seawright Investments, Yarrabin, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 438c/kg, reaching a top of $1,433 to average $1,312.  The Santa Gertrudis heifers sold to 306c/kg, reaching a top of $1,013 to average $932.

MJ, MCM & GJ Price, Marengo, Aramac sold Charolais cross steers to 382c/kg, reaching a top of $1,557 to average $1,430.

NB & SD Courtice, Ladas Downs, Glenmorgan sold Angus cross steers to 380c/kg, reaching a top of $1,308 to average $1,308.

Tungamah Farming Pty Ltd, Bude Station, Morella sold Charolais steers to 378c/kg, reaching a top of $1,374 to average $1,316.

AW & E Forster, Werna Station, Winton sold Charolais cross steers to 370c/kg, reaching a top of $1,547 to average $1,264.  The Murray Grey heifers sold to 316c/kg, reaching a top of $1,130 to average $1,017.

WG Cattle Co, Glenthomson, Longreach sold Charolais cross steers to 362c/kg, reaching a top of $1,516 to average $1,395.

Lyndale Grazing 2 Pty Ltd, Lyndale, Roma sold Simmental cross steers to 346c/kg, reaching a top of $1,596 to average $1,504.

MF Jebsen Australia Pty Ltd, Yunta sold Angus cross steers to 332c/kg, reaching a top of $1,159 to average $803.  The Hereford cross heifers sold to 250c/kg, reaching a top of $851 to average $492.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 230c/kg and averaged 190c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 328c/kg and averaged 248c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 320c/kg, averaging 289c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 324c/kg, averaging 293c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 324c/kg, averaging 313c/kg.

Douglas Hall, Outamorella Station, Longreach sold Angus cross heifers to 324c/kg, reaching a top of $1,313 to average $1,172.

BS Conroy, Penrose, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers to 308c/kg, reaching a top of $945 to average $894.

Sam Curr, Glenample Station, Aramac sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers to 306c/kg, reaching a top of $1,081 to average $897.

Luke Curr, Glenample Station, Aramac sold Charolais cross heifers to 306c/kg, reaching a top of $979 to average $847.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 245c/kg and averaged 231c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 250c/kg, averaging 240c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 250c/kg, averaging 241c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 255c/kg, averaging 250c/kg.

Andromeda Cattle Co, Eddington, Mungallala sold Charolais cross cows to 250c/kg, reaching a top of $1,505 to average $1,278.
