Roma store sale 7 Oct 2025: Heavy cows average 366c/kg

NLRS Commentary:

Roma Agents were still able to pen 8457 head. All the regular processors, lotfeeders and backgrounders present but not all active. A very good quality yarding penned. The market firm to dearer for most categories.

Yearling steers 200 to 280kg selling from 340c to 526c/kg for the better pens. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg improved almost 25c/kg to make 524c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg sold from 340c to 496c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg made to 505c to average 483c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling steers over 480kg to 439c/kg to processors and 468c/kg to Lot Feeders.

Light heifers were unable to maintain the levels of last sale. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg topped 432c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg made from 290c to 444c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg improved almost 29c to make to 486c/kg to Lot Feeders. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg sold to 480c to restockers to average 455c/kg. Yearling heifers over 480kg to 410c/kg to processors.

Grown steers 400 to 500kg sold from 420c to 480c/kg to restockers. Grown steers 500 to 600kg made from 390c to 478c/kg to Lot Feeders. There were some magnificent oats fattened bullocks on offer topping 439c/kg to processors. Grown heifers over 540kg also improved and made to 464c to average 460c/kg.

The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg made from 200c to 340c/kg. The 3 score cows over 520kg topping 410c/kg. Bulls 450 to 600kg sold to 384c and bulls over 600kg to 438c/kg.

The wide selection and quality of cattle on offer once again solidified Roma Saleyards as the marketplace of choice.

With a widespread drawing across the whole of Queensland, the yarding featured an abundance of pens from the Maranoa supply district including Roma, Surat and Muckadilla.

Multiple runs of cattle were also consigned from western and northern Queensland including Charleville and Winton.

Bernie and Cindy Bruce of ‘Wilga Park’, Taroom offloaded 55 Charolais cross and Wagyu cross steers at today’s sale.

A pen of their Charolais cross steers made 518c/kg weighing in at 310kg for a return $1,605/hd. The line was consigned through Top X Roma.

Arbroath EU accredited steers selling under PJH Livestock.

Arbroath Grazing co offloaded a quality run of heavy Simmental cross steers for an average 430c/kg to weigh 77kg for a return of $3,335/hd.

Taken straight off the oats at Muckadilla, two pens of the Simmental cross steers made 430c/kg, the heaviest pen weighing in at 819kg to fetch $3,525/hd.

A further two pens fetched a straight 429c/kg to weigh 767kg for an average return of $3,292/hd.

Mackie & Clover of ‘Bonella’, Charleville offloaded Droughtmaster cross steers for an average of 495c/kg weighing 284kg for a return of $1,404/hd.

The top pen fetched 518c/kg to weigh 270kg to fetch $1,401/hd.

The line was consigned through Nutrien Charleville/Tambo.

Wayne and Karen Brown offloaded a quality run of Angus heifers fetching an average 454c/kg to weigh 380kg for a return of $1,724/hd.

Based out of ‘Booralie’, Roma the producers fetched 460c/kg for the top pen to weigh 400kg for a return of $1,841/hd.

A further two pens made a straight 452c/kg weighing in at 382kg to make $1,726/hd.

The line was consigned through MAA.

A total of 8,457 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 494c/kg and averaged 395c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 526c/kg and averaged 474c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 520c/kg and averaged 472c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 496c/kg and averaged 455c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 505c/kg and averaged 462c/kg.

TM Mackie & LS Clover, Bonella, Charleville sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 518c/kg, reaching a top of $1,705 to average $1,403.

Richard Still, Stockade, Tambo sold Angus cross steers to 508c/kg, reaching a top of $1,554 to average $1,554.

Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 444c/kg, averaging 358c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 496c/kg, averaging 379c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 480c/kg, averaging 382c/kg.

Cecil James Russell, Ingledoon, Augathella sold Santa Gertrudis cross cows to 403c/kg, reaching a top of $2,647 to average $1,788.

Yackatoon Grazing, LA Grantha, Wandoan sold Droughtmaster cross cows to 400c/kg, reaching a top of $2,480 to average $2,167.
