Roma store sale 21 May: Steers dominate 4072 head yarding

A good panel of buyers was present and operating. Steers dominated the yarding and young cattle were present in numbers. The overall quality of the cattle was good with some good lines yarded.

Demand for the quality lines of cattle saw prices increase in isolated patches, however overall prices for steers were down from the previous week, while lightweight yearling heifers rose.

A small quality number of lightweight yearling steers under 280kg rose by 18c while the remainder fell by 1c to 14c/kg.

A good run of medium weight yearling steers under 330kg rose by 8c while the remainder under 330kg fell by 6c to 27c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers fell by 7c to 12c/kg.

Lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg rose by 4c to 21c/kg. The majority of medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg fell by 5c to 27c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows fell by 4c while the medium weight 3 score cows rose by 4c/kg. Heavy weight 2 score cows rose by 20c and heavy weight 3 score cows rose by 2c/kg.

Calves sold to 286.2c to average 222c/kg. A small number of quality lightweight yearling steers under 280kg sold to 310.2c to average 300c/kg.

A fair sample of sought after medium weight yearling steers under 330kg sold to 312.2c to average 294c/kg. The best of the medium weight feeder steers under 400kg sold to 284.2c to average 278kg. Heavy weight yearling steers made to 286.2c to average 280c/kg.

A good sample of lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 254.2c to average 242c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to 238.2c to average 218c/kg.

There were limited numbers of grown steers and heifers yarded.

Medium weight 2 score cows made to 194.2c to average 165c while the medium weight 3 score cows sold to 218c to average 213c/kg. Heavy weight 2 score cows sold to 199.2c to average 196c and the heavy weight 3 score cows made to 225.2c to average 214c/kg. The best of the bulls under 600kg to live export made to 282.2c to average 248c/kg.
