Yarding 3636 Change – 454

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area and the overall quality of the yarding was improved on previous weeks, with increased numbers of quality light weight younger steers yarded.

Steers accounted for almost two thirds of the yarding. A much larger buying panel including restockers and feedlotters, were operating to very strong competition across all steer categories, while a full buying panel of processors was present and operating.

Prices improved, reflective of the improved quality and younger yarding, with a good number of light weight yearling steers exceeding the $5/kg mark, and setting a new top price record for steers at the Roma Saleyards.

Light weight yearling steers rose by 30c to 42c/kg. Heavy feeders also sold to strong demand improving by 4c to 10c/kg. Light weight heifers under 200kg improved by 36c/kg. Medium weight cows to restockers continued to improve by up to 21c, while both medium weight and heavy weight cows in prime condition to processors improved by 15c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers sold to 556.2c to average 520c/kg, setting a new top price record for steers at Roma. A good sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to backgrounders made to 540.2c to average 471c/kg. The largest sample of medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 492.2c to average 440c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 462.2c to average 426c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 414.2c to average 406c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 492.2c to average 471c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 476.2c to average 439c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed sold to 409.2c to average 399c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to 398.2c to average 392c/kg. The best of the limited numbers of grown steers to feed sold to 353.2c to average 353c/kg. The largest sample of grown heifers reached a top of 363.2c to average 324c/kg. Light weight cows in store condition to restockers sold to a top of 322.2c to average 280c/kg while the medium weight cows in store condition to restockers made to a top of 300.2c to average 296c/kg. Medium weight 4 score cows made to 321.2c to average 317c, while heavy weight 4 score cows made to 324.2c to average 320c/kg. The best of the light weight bulls made to 534.2c to average 508c/kg. Cows and calves reached a top of $2300/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 556c/kg and averaged 507c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 530c/kg and averaged 472c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 492c/kg and averaged 436c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 448c/kg and averaged 413c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 430c/kg and averaging 386c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $2,300/unit.
