Elders Roma auctioneer Peter Fleming with a pen of Bangor Cattle Co Pty Ltd steers. The steers sold to 572c/kg, reaching a top of $1,215 to average $905. The heifers sold to 560c/kg, reaching a top of $1,409 to average $983.

Yarding 5402 Change 1766

Cattle were drawn mostly from the local supply area, with good numbers from Western and North Western Queensland also present, and the overall quality of the yarding varied. Steers accounted for approximately half of the yarding.

A large buying panel was again present, including all regular processors, and buyers were operating to very strong competition across all categories.

Restocker and backgrounder competition on light weight steers saw new top price records continue to be set at the Roma Saleyards.

Light weight yearling steers rose by 9c to 20c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers improved by 9c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers gained 16c to 33c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers rose by 10c to 29c/kg. The increased numbers of grown steers yarded also sold to strong demand with medium weight grown steers improving by 21c to 25c/kg. Medium and heavy weight prime cows fell by 2c, however 3 score cows improved by 9c to 22c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers sold to 572.2c to average 541c/kg, setting a new top price record for steers at Roma. The largest sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 568.2c to average 501c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 498.2c to average 450c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 448.2c to average 416c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed reached a top of 410.2c to average 396c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 560.2c to average 495c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 496.2c to average 454c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 472.2c to average 412c, while medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers made to 390.2c to average 378c/kg. The best of the increased numbers of grown steers to feed sold to 378.2c to average 369c/kg. The largest sample of grown heifers reached a top of 347.2c to average 332c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 314.2c to average 305c, while medium weight 4 score cows made to 316.2c to average 315c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 313.2c to average 306c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 322.2c to average 318c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 342.2c to average 331c/kg. Cows and calves reached a top of $1940/unit.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 486c/kg and averaged 424c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 442c/kg and averaged 400c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 410c/kg and averaging 373c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,940/unit.

LL & SD Bode, Percol Plains, McKinlay sold Angus cross steers to 568c/kg, reaching a top of $1,408 to average $1,000.

Layershire Pty Ltd, Koorandai, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 550c/kg, reaching a top of $1,374 to average $1,168. The Angus cross heifers sold to 498c/kg, reaching a top of $1,289 to average $1,047.

DK & DEM Williams, Woodlands, Wyandra sold Droughtmaster steers to 536c/kg, reaching a top of $1,250 to average $1,096.

NR Harland & G Humphreys, Barradine, Roma sold Charolais steers to 498c/kg, reaching a top of $1,394 to average $1,394. The Charolais heifers sold to 440c/kg, reaching a top of $1,220 to average $1,220.
