Roma Saleyards report
Just over 4500 head of cattle were offloaded at Roma Saleyards today with prices holding firm consistent with previous market results.
A rain affected yarding saw a decrease in sale numbers this week with scattered local showers and heavier falls to the west recorded.
Lines were drawn locally from Wallumbilla, Mitchell and further afield with the likes of Blackall and Ilfracombe among others.
Vendor Mick York, Piccadilly, north Wallumbilla sold 86 Simmental cross steers to average 388c/kg at 440kg to return $1707 per head.
The commercial producer contributed an excellent season and favourable prices to today’s offload.
“Our steers that we sold today held over as we’ve had plenty of grass,” he said.
Mr York operates a predominately breeding enterprise crossing Simmental with Hereford and Braford genetics.
He said their resulting progeny returned ideal weight for age and carcase traits, which suited their commercial focus.
“Today we targeted largely the heavy feeder steer market,” he said.
