Roma store sale 4 Feb: Feedlot demand strong in smaller yarding

MAA agent Duncan McLeod with a line of SA & B Smith & Sons Land & Cattle Co steers. The steers sold to 388c/kg, reaching a top of $1,073 to average $935. The heifers sold to 336c/kg, reaching a top of $940 to average $838.

Smaller yardings continue after recent rain events across the supply area including patchy storms yesterday.

Cattle were again mostly drawn from the local supply area.

A smaller panel of buyers was present and operating to strong demand.

Steers dominated the yarding with heifers and cows present in equal numbers. The quality of the yarding varied with light weight cattle present in numbers, however prices improved significantly due to the reduced supply and recent rainfall.

Feedlot competition was particularly strong.

Light weight yearling steers under 280kg improved by 38c to 48c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg improved by 48c to 51c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers lifted in price by 20c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg lifted by 43c to 55c/kg. Medium weight and heavy weight 3 score cows both improved in price by 34c/kg.

A small number of quality light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers reached a top of 400.2c to average 371c/kg.

A large sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to feed or background sold to 398.2c to average 384c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed under 330kg made to 382.2c to average 373c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg sold to 367.2c to average 364c/kg.

Light weight weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 342c to average 331c/kg. The best of the medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to processors sold to a top of 346c to average 333c/kg. The best of the limited numbers of heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to processors reached a top of 347c to average 331c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to 291c to average 273c, while the heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 295c to average 282c/kg.

Heavy weight bulls reached a top of 315c to average 300c/kg.

Raceview Past Co, Warraworen, Charleville sold Santa cross steers to 398c/kg, reaching a top of $1,136 to average $1,047. The Santa cross cows sold to 294c/kg, reaching a top of $1,669 to average $1,562.
