Roma sale 4 July 2023: Rain slashes yarding to 2963

Rain across the supply area reduced the number of stock at the Roma store sale down by over 5,000 head to a total of 2,963.

Cattle were drawn from the local and western supply areas and New South Wales.

All the buyers of the previous week returned and were active in the market.

Light weight yearling steers and heifers returning to the paddock sold to strong demand. However yearling steers and heifers to feed improved in price. Heavy grown steers to export processors were noticeably dearer. Cows sold to a market 12c to 14c/kg better.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 408c average 363c/kg. Yearling steers under 330kg to restockers averaged 354c and made to 366c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 340c to average 330c and restockers lines averaged 336c and made to 368c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 330c and averaged 320c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 286c average 262c/kg. Yearling heifers under 330kg made to 282c to average 267c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 272c to average 258c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to processors made to 285c/kg.

Grown steers to export processors made to 321c and averaged 317c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 214c and the best of the heavy weights averaged 229c with the occasional sale to 240c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 264c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 324c/kg and averaged 290c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 408c/kg and averaged 361c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 365c/kg and averaged 353c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 368c/kg and averaged 326c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 330c/kg and averaged 314c/kg.

Coorada Pastoral Co., Coorada, Taroom sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 408c/kg, reaching a top of $991 to average $901.

Boxvale Cattle Co, Boxvale, Taroom sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 388c/kg, reaching a top of $1,251 to average $942. The Santa Gertrudis cross cows sold to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $1,509 to average $1,257.

Des & Wendy Jones, Evergreen, Injune sold Simbrah steers to 374c/kg, reaching a top of $1,190 to average $962. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 284c/kg, reaching a top of $836 to average $632.

Justin & Ron Tarry, Morinda, Wyandra sold Charbray cross steers to 370c/kg, reaching a top of $1,200 to average $822.

Ben Avery, Allandale, Blackall sold Charolais cross steers to 368c/kg reaching a top of $1,320 to average $1,248.

R.L. & J.D. Davidson, Hillandale, Wandoan sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 366c/kg reaching a top of $1,272 to average $1,033. The Murray Grey cross heifers sold to 286c/kg, reaching a top of $835 to average $702.

Wayne Scriven, Hawthorne, Dulacca sold Angus cross steers to 358c/kg reaching a top of $950 to average $950.

BJ & WR Taylor, Marjundale, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 352c/kg reaching a top of $1,075 to average $987.

Natures Beef Pty Ltd sold Angus cross steers to 350c/kg, reaching a top of $971 to average $727.

GFD Lee, Leswalt, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 330c/kg, reaching a top of $1,368 to average $1,368. The Angus cross heifers sold to 288c/kg, reaching a top of $1,291 to average $1,099.

Reynella Grazing Co, Reynella, Charleville sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 321c/kg, reaching a top of $1,898 to average $1,744.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 256c/kg and averaged 243c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 286c/kg and averaged 260c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 282c/kg, averaging 260c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 272c/kg, averaging 244c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 288c/kg, averaging 256c/kg.

McNicholl Livestock, Arklow, Dulacca sold Angus cross heifers to 270c/kg, reaching a top of $864 to average $715.

Body and Co, S.R. Body, Tarrawonga, Wallumbilla sold Angus cross heifers to 260c/kg, reaching a top of $1,201 to average $830.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 184c/kg and averaged 155c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 218c/kg, averaging 186c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 240c/kg, averaging 213c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 240c/kg, averaging 224c/kg.

Palmtree Grazing, Palmtree, Taroom sold Santa Gertrudis cross PTIC cows to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $1,430 to average $1,237.

Wilson Grazing, Redbank, Mitchell sold Braford cows to 229c/kg, reaching a top of $1,390 to average $1,043.

DW & SG Rowbotham, White Park, Roma sold Brahman cross cows to 225c/kg, reaching a top of $1,350 to average $1,233.
