Roma store sale 4 August 2015: Cows and calves hit $1575

Weaners under 220kg topped at 336c/kg and averaged 299c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 334c and averaged 287c in a big yarding of 10,596 head at Roma store sale yesterday.

Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 334c/kg and averaged 277c/kg, while steers 350-400kg reached 316c/kg and averaged 281c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 308c/kg and averaging 280c/kg.

Among the sale highlights, N & S Courtice, Ladas Downs, Glenmorgan, sold Angus steers to 334c/kg for 285kg to return $953/head, while B & L Woodard, Tualka South, Taroom, sold Angus steers to 328c for 225kg to return $740.

Sutton Beef, Sunnybank, Surat, sold Santa-cross steers averaging 278kg for 324c to return $903, while Simmac Pastoral Co, Mt Maria, Morven, sold 321kg Angus-cross steers to 318c to return $1023.

K & B Halliday, Glencoe, Bollon, sold 263kg Charolais steers to 318c to return $838, while R & M Cochrane, Sugarloaf Creek, Roma, sold 257kg Hereford steers to 318c to return $820.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 296c/kg and averaged 246c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 296c/kg and averaged 239c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 292c/kg and averaged 240c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 286c/kg and averaged 253c/kg.

D & S Campbell, Currawarra, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross heifers to 292c for 278kg to return $813.

Thunderbolt Grazing, The Springs, Aramac, sold Braford-cross heifers to 280c for 208kg to return $583.

Cows over 500kg sold to 245c/kg and averaged 235c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 244c/kg and averaged 219c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 222c/kg and averaged 196c/kg.

S Kidman & Co sold Santa cows to 244c for 471kg to return $1151.

Cows and calves sold to $1575/unit and averaged $1044.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 290c/kg and average 250c/kg.
