Roma store sale 4 Aug 2020: Steers, bullocks dominate yarding

Cattle were drawn from the usual supply area, and the overall quality varied in a yarding again dominated by steers with good numbers of heavy bullocks yarded, along with several lines of quality young steers and heifers.

There was a good buying panel present and all were operating.

The market continued to be quality driven with prices and competition remaining strong for quality lines.

Prices fluctuated across the yarding, with an overall improvement for most steer categories, while heifers mostly eased from the previous week.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg improved by 8c, while the light weight yearling heifers under 200kg fell by 10c/kg. Medium weight steers to feed improved by 10c to 32c, and medium weight heifers to restockers improved by 8c/kg. Heavy weight grown steers improved by 6c/kg.

Medium weight 3 score cows improved by 4c while the heavy weight 3 score cows improved by 5c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 494.2c to average 479c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers also made to 494.2c to average 456c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 472.2c to average 438c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to restockers sold to 440.2c to average 399c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 396.2c to average 393c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 468.2c to average 433c/kg. A large sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 462.2c to average 423c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 430.2c to average 392c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers made to 396.2c to average 371c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to restockers reached a top of 362.2c to average 361c/kg.

Four tooth grown steers sold to 382.2c to average 382c/kg. The largest sample of grown heifers reached a top of 317.2c to average 306c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 289.2c to average 278c/kg.

Heavy weight 3 score cows made to 290.2c to average 285c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 310.2c to average 303c/kg

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 496c/kg and averaged 467c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 494c/kg and averaged 434c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 472c/kg and averaged 400c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 440c/kg and averaged 378c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 396c/kg and averaging 369c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,100/unit.
