Roma store sale 11 Aug 2020: Light weight yearling set new top price record

Cattle numbers fell to 3,913 the Roma Store Sale, down from the previous week by 1,159 head after recent widespread rain fall across the supply area. Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area including large runs from Alice Springs, and Torrens Creek, along with the local supply area.

The overall quality was mixed and steers and heifers were yarded in equal numbers. There was a good buying panel present and all were operating. Reduced numbers saw top end prices improve across the light and medium weight steers along with the heavier end of the heifers, however the quality of the yarding affected averages.

Cows improved across all categories.

Medium weight steers under 330kg improved by 4c to 11c. Medium weight heifers under 400kg improved by 14c to 29c. Heavy weight cows improved by 4c to 14c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 537.2c to average 460c/kg setting a new top price record for the Roma Saleyards. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers also made to 490.2c to average 462c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 472.2c to average 448c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to restockers also sold to 472.2c to average 423c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 390.2c to average 383c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 490.2c to average 412c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 460.2c to average 411c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 398.2c to average 380c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers made to 400.2c to average 386c/kg. The limited number of heavy weight yearling heifers to feed reached a top of 370.2c to average 370c/kg.

The best of the small number of grown steers sold to 355.2c to average 355c, while the largest sample of grown heifers under 540kg reached a top of 329.2c/kg to average 321c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 296.2c to average 287c/kg while heavy weight 3 score cows made to 300.2c to average 289c/kg.

Heavy weight 4 score cows sold to 304.2c to average 303c/kg. The best of the light weight bulls made to 464.2c to average 404c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 537c/kg and averaged 447c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 482c/kg and averaged 447c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 472c/kg and averaged 420c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 472c/kg and averaged 389c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 368c/kg and averaging 416c/kg.

Orallo Enterprises P/L, Mt Owen Rd, Forestvale sold Droughtmaster steers to 482c/kg, reaching a top of $1,331 to average $1,216. The Santa cross heifers sold to 412c/kg, reaching a top of $994 to average $972.

Burunga P/L, Burunga Park, Wandoan sold Santa cross steers to 472c/kg, reaching a top of $1,689 to average $1,449. The Santa cross heifers sold to 426c/kg, reaching a top of $1,192 to average $1,051.
