Roma store sale 18 Aug 2020: Restocker chase light cattle and cows

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area including numbers from North West and Western Queensland, along with the local supply area. The overall quality of the yarding was again mixed and steers and heifers were yarded in equal numbers.

There was a larger buying panel with increased restocker buyers present, however one regular processor was not operating.

Restocker competition was strong on the large number of light weight steers and heifers yarded, which saw steers under 200kg improve by 28c, and heifers under 200kg improved by 75c/kg. Restockers also competed on light and medium weight cows which saw significant price improvements, however processor competition was reduced from the previous week, and prices were reflective with heavy weight cows down by 9c to 22c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers including a large single vendor run, made to 536.2c to average 488c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers also made to 496.2c to average 449c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 488.2c to average 442c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed also sold to 498.2c to average 400c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 401.2c to average 387c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers, which included the sale topping run of 454 head of a single vendor line, reached a top of 520.2c to average 487c/kg. The largest sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 452.2c to average 410c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 442.2c to average 396c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to 388.2c to average 380c/kg.

The best of the small number of medium weight grown steers sold to 376.2c to average 358c/kg.

Light weight cows to restockers made to 316.2c to average 303c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to a top of 285.2c to average 273c, while heavy weight 3 score cows made to 286.2c to average 280c/kg.

The largest sample of light weight bulls made to 434.2c to average 383c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 536c/kg and averaged 465c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 490c/kg and averaged 445c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 488c/kg and averaged 414c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 405c/kg and averaged 386c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 401c/kg and averaging 359c/kg. Cows and calves hit $1,250/unit.
