Roma sale 31 Oct 2023: Steers and heifers up 15-30c

Cattle were drawn from NSW and the large supply area of Western Downs and far Western Qld.

The regular processors and feedlotters operating with one to two extra restockers active on the better quality lines.

The market showed improvement with an increase of 15c to 30c/kg in the steer and heifer section with cows struggling to maintain last weeks prices.

Heavy steers and bullocks similar in price to previous weeks sale.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg returning to the paddock averaged 254c topped at 266c/kg.

Yearling steers 200 to 280 kg made to 280c to average 256c/kg. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg to feed averaged 226c to 237c and made to 248c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg returning to the paddock topped at 254c and averaged 235c/kg. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg made from 202c to 238c to average 236c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg averaged 160c topping at 179c/kg. Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg made from 118c to 194c to average 171c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg returning to the paddock topped at 210c/kg. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg made to 196c to average 178c/kg. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg averaged 160c topping at 190c with over 480kg also making to 190c/kg.

Manufacturing steers to 206c with 500 to 600kg grown steers making to 210c to average 190c with the bullocks to 214c/kg.

The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg made from 90c to 146c to average 135c/kg.The 3 score cows topping at 185c to average 156c/kg. Best of the heavy weight bulls to 222c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 266c/kg and averaged 212c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 280c/kg and averaged 244c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 258c/kg and averaged 221c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 254c/kg and averaged 233c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 238c/kg and averaged 213c/kg.

KJ & SL Boyd, Kia-Ora, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $813 to average $633.

Palm Tree Grazing, Palmtree, Taroom sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 280c/kg, reaching a top of $1,200 to average $900.  The Santa Gertrudis cross Heifers sold to 210c/kg, reaching a top of $734 to average $598.

P & HA Sanderson, Mundalya, Yuleba sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 262c/kg, reaching a top of $717 to average $677.  The Santa Gertrudis cross heifers sold to 176c/kg, reaching a top of $533 to average $420.

Barbara Plains Grazing, Barbara Plains, Wyandra sold Simbrah steers to 254c/kg, reaching a top of $851 to average $836.

GT Grazing, Grafton Terrace, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 254c/kg, reaching a top of $877 to average $840.

EJ & CF Rolfe, Yapunyah, Roma sold Charolais cross steers sold to 260c/kg, reaching a top of $850 to average $744.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 184c/kg, reaching a top of $514 to average $514.

JGC & LN Kadel, Pamaroo, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 248c/kg, reaching a top of $785 to average $741.

Mehaul Partnership, Mehaul, Walgett sold Angus steers to 246c/kg, reaching a top of $715 to average $578.  The Angus heifers sold to 194c/kg, reaching a top of $570 to average $424.

DW & TL Phillips, Luccombe, Mitchell sold Angus steers to 244c/kg, reaching a top of $749 to average $749.

JE & JL Creevy, Lucknow Station, Augathella sold Charolais steers to 236c/kg, reaching a top of $660 to average $553.  The Charolais heifers sold to 180c/kg, reaching a top of $570 to average $434.

BLE & CM McFadzen, Nullawart, Roma sold Brangus steers to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $1,105 to average $976.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 178c/kg and averaged 157c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 194c/kg and averaged 164c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 210c/kg, averaging 170c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 190c/kg, averaging 169c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 190c/kg, averaging 171c/kg.

Farmleigh Grazing, Farmleigh, Injune sold Brahman cross heifers to 190c/kg, reaching a top of $1,020 to average $937.

Dan & Sarah Joliffe, Walhallow, Amby sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers to 182c/kg, reaching a top of $532 to average $478.

Shane Herberts, Horseshoe Lagoon, Roma sold Droughtmaster cross heifers to 180c/kg, reaching a top of $392 to average $392.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 146c/kg and averaged 115c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 160c/kg, averaging 140c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 180c/kg, averaging 153c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 185c/kg, averaging 166c/kg.

Angellala Downs Pastoral Co., Angellala Downs, Morven sold Santa Gertrudis cross cows to 160c/kg, reaching a top of $940 to average $747.

Wallangra Pastoral Co., Wallangra, Wandoan sold Angus cows to 160c/kg, reaching top of $1,328 to average $1,328.
