Just over 4600 head were yarded at Roma store sale yesterday, with all regular processors, backgrounders, and lotfeeders present and actively bidding throughout the morning.

Several quality lines of local and western cattle held firm on last week’s market in the steer and heifer job.

Cattle were yarded primarily from the local Maranoa supply district and western regions, including Injune, Wallumbilla, Taroom, Roma, Quilpie and Charleville.

The yarding also included several consignments from both northern and southern regions, with cattle sourced from as far as McKinlay and Cloncurry in the north and Collarenebri in NSW.

The quality and selection of cattle on offer once again showcased Roma Saleyards as the marketplace of choice.

Colin and Shawnie Maunder of ‘Ben Bow’ offloaded a large run of Charolais cross steers and heifers at the Roma sale.

Based at Wallumbilla, a quality line of Charolais cross steers averaged 436c/kg weighing 296kg for a return average of $1,293/hd.

Two pens of Charolais cross steers fetched a straight 446c/kg, weighing 271kg to make $1,212/hd.

A further two pens of the Charolais cross steers on the heavier end made 426ckg to weigh 326kg and returned $1,390/hd.

The line was consigned through GDL.

Gwenbrook Grazing, Roma, Charolais cross heifers

Whitton Cattle Company from ‘Myrtleville’ Injune offloaded a quality line of Charolais cross steers to average 449c/kg weighing 312kg and returned $1,401/hd.

A pen of 42 Charolais cross steers sold for 458c/kg weighing 303kg and returned 1,388/hd.

A further two pens fetched 448c/kg to weigh 318kg and returned $1,425/hd.

The line was consigned through Watkins and Co.

The heifer job impressed today with just over of 1,500 head consigned.

Gwenbrook Grazing from Roma offloaded a run of 136 Charolais cross heifers to average 367c/kg weighing 287kg to return $1052/hd.

Three pens of Charolais cross heifers sold for a straight 370c/kg weighing an average 279kg to return $1,031/hd.

A further Two pens fetched 366c/kg to weigh 298kg for a return of $1,092/hd.

The line was consigned through Ray White Rural Roma.

 

NLRS Commentary:

Similar numbers to last sale Roma Agents yarded 4649 head. All the regular processors lotfeeders and backgrounders present. A very high quality yarding presented with western and locally bred cattle. The market similar although cows could not maintain the levels  of last sale as well as bullocks.

Yearling steers under 200kg topped 464c/kg. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg with the majority selling from 318c to 464c/kg. Yearling steers 280 to 330kg going back to the paddock topping 458c to average 427c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg sold to a dearer trend and made to 434c/kg. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg made to 390c to average 378c/kg. Yearling steers over 480kg sold from 316c to 352c/kg to processors. Yearling steers over 480kg sold from 310c to 392c/kg also to processors.

Yearling heifers 200 to 280kg with the majority selling from 276c to 370c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg made from 270c to 316c to processors and 370c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg also topped 370c/kg to restockers. A small number of yearling heifers 400 to 480kg sold to 348c/kg to processors. Yearling heifers over 480kg topping 330c/kg to processors.

Grown steers 500 to 600kg made to 356c and bullocks over 600kg topped 340c/kg to processors. Grown heifers over 540kg also to processors made to 350c/kg. Cows increased in numbers but could not maintain the levels of last sale with 2 export processors absent. The 2 score cows sold from 200c to 266c/kg. The 3 score cows topped 316c to average 293c/kg. Bulls 450 to 600kg made to 292c with bulls over 600kg sold to 316c/kg.

A total of 4,649 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 464c/kg and averaged 420c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 464c/kg and averaged 422c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 458c/kg and averaged 412c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 428c/kg and averaged 389c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 392c/kg and averaged 369c/kg.

Whitton Cattle Company, Myrtleville, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 458c/kg, reaching a top of $1,437 to average $1,400.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 370c/kg, reaching a top of $1,139 to average $1,118.

DE & DD Burey, Torwood, Mungallala sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 456c/kg, reaching a top of $1,655 to average $1,255.

OX Beef Trust, Myall, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 446c/kg, reaching a top of $1,313 to average $1,253.  The Shorthorn cross heifers sold to 366c/kg, reaching a top of $1,008 to average $996.

Maunder Pastoral Co, Benbow, Wallumbilla sold Charolais cross steers to 446c/kg, reaching a top of $1,394 to average $1,292.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 370c/kg, reaching a top of $1,137 to average $999.

Malabar Holdings Pty Ltd, Delmar, Bollon sold Charolais cross steers to 442c/kg, reaching a top of $1,425 to average $1,248.

James W Blackburn, Mt Bindango, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 436c/kg, reaching a top of $1,406 to average $1,383.  The Charolais cross heifers sold to 364c/kg, reaching a top of $1,191 to average $1,121.

PR & MC Maunder, Burnside, Wallumbilla sold Angus cross steers to 436c/kg, reaching a top of $1,476 to average $1,269.  The Angus cross heifers sold to 368c/kg, reaching a top of $1,202 to average $955.

MA & CR Packer, Trinity, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 428c/kg, reaching a top of $1,615 to average $1,505.

M & F Bidgood, Katoomba, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 416/kg, reaching a top of $1,555 to average $1,459.

TW & AJ Bowen, Lolworth, Morven sold Droughtmaster steers to 400c/kg, reaching a top of $1,613 to average $1,456.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 324c/kg and averaged 324c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 370c/kg and averaged 340c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 370c/kg, averaging 326c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 356c/kg, averaging 308c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 348c/kg, averaging 309c/kg.

Conny T Thomas T/A Gwenbrook Grazing, Gwenbrook, Roma sold Charolais cross heifers to 370c/kg, reaching a top of $1,616 to average $1,051.

Joe Allen, Albany Downs, Dunkeld sold Angus cross heifers to 356c/kg, reaching a top of $1,276 to average $1,276.

GS & CJ White, Marionvale, Surat sold Brangus heifers to 356c/kg, reaching a top of $1,162 to average $1,088.

Seawright Investments, Injune sold Angus heifers to 342c/kg, reaching a top of $1,283 to average $1,183.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 262c/kg and averaged 215c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 287c/kg, averaging 252c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 310c/kg, averaging 284c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 316c/kg, averaging 295c/kg.

PD & SE Joliffe, Walhallow, Amby sold Santa Gertrudis cows to 310c/kg, reaching a top of $2,076 to average $1,999.

Stinson Pastoral Co, Amby sold Angus cross cows to 296c/kg, reaching a top of $2,280 to average $1,882.
