Beef Central, 30/07/2014

NLRS Roma Store Sale market commentary:

Yarding 5519, Change -2389

Good lines of South West Queensland yearling steers and heifers were penned, with mixed quality consignments from North West parts of the state also yarded. The panel of restocker buyers included several northern NSW buyers and a couple of Darling Downs livestock producers. Good quality yearling steers and heifers sold well, while solid feedlot buyer competition for heavy weight yearling steers resulted in prices lifting 5c/kg. The quality of medium weight yearling heifers was mixed and feedlot buyer interest was limited. A full panel of export processors was operating on all classes of cows. Cows and calves sold to $640/unit.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 200c and averaged 188c, up 2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers sold to 182c and averaged between 173c and 177c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed topped at 197c and averaged 191c, up 5c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers made to 145c and averaged 130c, down 10c, while those to processors earned to 163c and averaged 136c, up 10c/kg. Those returning to the paddock hit 176c and averaged 154c, up 20c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 140c, down 8c, while those to restockers sold to 144c/kg.
