Roma store sale 12 Feb 2019: Most steer classes improve

Roger and Jenny Underwood, Pine Hills, Wallumbilla, donated two Droughtmaster cows with all proceeds going to the QCWA Public Crisis Fund. The cows made a total of $3000 each. Roger and Jenny also donated to the fund, matching the amount the cows made, making the entire donation $12,000.

Yarding 5335 Change 918

Cattle numbers increased by 918 to 5,335 head at the Roma Store Sale. Cattle were drawn from the usual supply area and a good panel of buyers was present however not all were operating. The yarding was dominated by yearling steers and heifers and the quality of all categories of cattle varied.

Overall, most classes of steers saw improvements, with the exception of the heavy yearling steers.

Prices fluctuated both up and down for all other cattle. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers increased by 12c to 44c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to domestic feed sold 10c to 28c/kg dearer. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed eased 12c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg increased 4c to 23c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to domestic feed eased 26c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold 18c/kg dearer.

Limited numbers of grown steers and heifers were present. Medium weight 2 score cows eased 19c, while the 3 score cows decreased by 24c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows sold 30c/kg cheaper. Light weight bulls increased 33c to 38c/kg. Yearling steers under 200kg to restockers sold to 316.2c to average 302c, while the yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to a top of 306.2c to average 296c/kg. A good sample of medium weight yearling steers to domestic feed made to 300.2c to average 287c/kg. Heavy weight steers to feed made to 288c to average 275c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers sold to 250.2c to average 245c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to restockers or background sold to 250c to average 231c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 266.2c to average 243c, while heavy weight yearling heifers to feed also sold to 266.2c to average 261c/kg.

The largest sample of heavy weight grown steers sold to 236.2c to average 234c/kg. Grown heifers under 540kg made to 220.2c to average 216c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows to process sold to 174.2c to average 164c, while the medium weight 3 score cows to process made to 198c to average 187c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 205c to average 194c/kg. Light weight bulls to restockers sold to 276.2c to average 266c/kg

WEANER steers under 220kg topped at 316c/kg and averaged 288c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 306c/kg and averaged 270c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 300c/kg and averaged 280c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 288c/kg and averaged 268c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 286c/kg and averaging 263c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $810/unit.

Stanyer Partnership, Coolatah, Charleville sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 306c/kg, reaching a top of $878 to average $600.

JF & BP Russell, Willara, Augathella sold Charolais cross steers to 304c/kg, reaching a top of $820 to average $763.

William & Tessa Clemesha, Sunset Valley, Bollon sold Charbray cross steers to 302c/kg, reaching a top of $1,148 to average $859.

Dalmally Grazing Co, Dalmally, Roma sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 298c/kg, reaching a top of $1,065 to average $968.

KA & JJ Jamieson, Grafton Terrace, Roma sold Santa cross steers to 295c/kg, reaching a top of $1,259 to average $999. The Santa cross heifers sold to 248c/kg, reaching a top of $925 to average $699.

Rosemary Ford, Hillcrest, Roma sold Santa cross steers to 295c/kg, reaching a top of $871 to average $871.

PJ & ME Brennan, For Far, Mitchell sold Charbray steers to 294c/kg, reaching a top of $990 to average $687.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 250c/kg and averaged 221c/kg, while heifers in the 220 – 280kg range topped at 246c/kg and averaged 212c/kg. Heifers in the 280- 350kg range topped at 250c/kg, averaging 218c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 270c/kg, averaging 237c/kg.

Harland Cattle Co, Coolibah, Roma sold Charolais cross heifers to 266c/kg, reaching a top of $1,181 to average $1,066.

TC Grazing, Tarossie, Jackson sold Angus cross heifers to 246c/kg, reaching a top of $1,063 to average $1,063.

Bannerhawk Pty Ltd, Billabalong, Injune sold Droughtmaster heifers to 244c/kg, reaching a top of $888 to average $756.
