Roma sale 29 Aug 2023: Prices down in 5206 head yarding

Cattle were drawn from far Western Queensland, the Warrego area of NSW and the local district.

All processors were in attendance and operating as well as lotfeeders and backgrounders.

Similar to last week’s sale prices continued to falter, however, buyers opted to purchase the better bred lines.

Light weight yearling steers returning the paddock topped at 270c to average 237c/kg. Yearling steers 200 to 280kg to feed made to 287c to average 277c/kg. Yearling steers 330 to 400kg to feed to suit the domestic market averaged 298c and topped at 320c/kg. Heavy yearling steers to feed made to 322c to average 315c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock averaged 166c made to 188c/kg. Yearling heifers 280 to 330kg to feed averaged 204c topping at 222c/kg. Yearling heifers 330 to 400kg made to 220c with an average of 210c/kg.

A small selection of prime bullocks made to 260c and averaged 251c/kg.

Medium weight score 2 cows made to 200c to average 161c/kg. Heavy weight score 3 and 4 cows averaged 204c and topped at 220c/kg.

A number of bulls penned and made to 247c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 270c/kg and averaged 216c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 318c/kg and averaged 279c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 320c/kg and averaged 279c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 325c/kg and averaged 285c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 322c/kg and averaged 281c/kg.

RA + HA Hall sold Santa Gertrudis steers to 325c/kg, reaching a top of $1,469 to average $1,097.

Wallockatoo Pastoral Co., Wallockatoo, Wandoan sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 322c/kg, reaching a top of $1,419 to average $1,008.

K.J. & J.M. Pezet, Ardnaree, Charleville sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $1,410 to average $1,105.

Moonya Agriculture Pty Ltd, Roma sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 318c/kg, reaching a top of $1,113 to average $1,045.

Jakins Partnership, Callawera, Thallon sold Angus cross steers to 310c/kg, reaching a top of $1,224 to average $895. The Angus cross heifers sold to 172c/kg, reaching a top of $419 to average $419.

PJ & ME Brennan, For Far, Mitchell sold Charolais cross steers to 308c/kg, reaching a top of $1,150 to average $819. The Charolais heifers sold to 210c/kg, reaching a top of $700 to average $428.

Barbara Plains Grazing, Barbara Plains, Wyandra sold Simbrah steers to 306c/kg, reaching a top of $1,015 to average $807. The Simbrah heifers sold to 216c/kg, reaching a top of $572 to average $498.

Scott Ridley, Talegar, Coonamble sold Brangus steers to 306c/kg, reaching a top of $746 to average $668.

Carbene Grazing, Taemarie, Condamine sold Ultrablack steers to 288c/kg, reaching a top of $914 to average $834. The Ultrablack heifers sold to 170c/kg, reaching a top of $467 to average $432.

RR & DL Allwood, Gaemond, Yuleba sold Angus cross steers to 282c/kg, reaching a top of $877 to average $661.

Dalco Pastoral Co., Sugarloaf, Wallumbilla sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers to 260c/kg, reaching a top of $1,985 to average $1,713.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 188c/kg and averaged 166c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 228c/kg and averaged 178c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 222c/kg, averaging 187c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 220c/kg, averaging 201c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 256c/kg, averaging 214c/kg.

B.M. & N.D. Bauer, Arlington, Augathella sold Simmental cross heifers to 228c/kg, reaching a top of $683 to average $593.

R.D. & N.J. Statham sold Angus cross heifers to 212c/kg, reaching a top of $835 to average $720.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 215c/kg and averaged 139c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 225c/kg, averaging 167c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 220c/kg, averaging 194c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 220c/kg, averaging 201c/kg.

Stanyer Partnership, Coolatah, Charleville sold Droughtmaster cross cows to 210c/kg, reaching a top of $1,155 to average $1,008.

Ian Duff, Duffields, Injune sold Droughtmaster cross cows to 208c/kg, reaching a top of $1,237 to average $1,084.

RC Business Pty Ltd, Durella, Morven sold Santa Gertrudis cross cows to 205c/kg, reaching a top of $1,217 to average $1,109.
