Roma sale 12 Dec 2023: Cows sell to stronger demand

The last sale for 2023 numbers remained high at Roma with 7379 head.

Cattle were drawn from across Queensland general supply area also Northern Territory and NSW.

The regular processors operating as well as feedlotters and backgrounders.

Most steers eased slightly due to quality and type with the heifers selling firm and cows sold to stronger demand.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg sold to 404c to average 340c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg made to 430c to average 375c/kg. Yearling steers under 330kg averaged 336c sold to 392c/kg. Yearling steers under 400kg sold from 240c to 356c/kg. Yearling steers 400 to 480kg made to 332c with the over 480kg selling to 270c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg made to 252c and averaged from 189c to 251c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg topped at 302c/kg to restockers. Yearling heifers under 330kg also sold to 302c/kg to feed. Yearling heifers under 400kg to feed for domestic market topped at 344c/kg. Yearling heifers 400 to 480kg to feed made to 263c/kg.

Grown steers 500 to 600kg made to 270c to processors with the 600kg plus selling to 250c/kg. Grown heifers 400 to 500kg sold to 275c/kg. The 2 score cows 400 to 520kg sold from 170c to 210c with the 3 score cows 520kg plus topping at 216c/kg. The heavy weight bulls made to 232c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 430c/kg and averaged 321c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 418c/kg and averaged 339c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 390c/kg and averaged 327c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 356c/kg and averaged 316c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topped at 330c/kg and averaged 298c/kg.

SD & MJ Russell, Wodonga, Mungallala sold Charolais cross steers to 418c/kg, reaching a top of $1,027 to average $915.

DJ Burey, Torwood, Mungallala sold Santa cross steers to 410c/kg, reaching a top of $1,045 to average $1,024.

DA & CBM Twist, Juandah Downs, Mungallala sold Charolais cross steers to 402c/kg, reaching a top of $1,200 to average $1,077.

Farmleigh Grazing, Farmleigh, Injune sold Crossbred steers to 392c/kg, reaching a top of $1,429 to average $1,096.

Skew Qld Pty Ltd, Ravenscourt, Charleville sold Charolais cross steers to 392c/kg, reaching a top of $1,288 to average $1,088. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 306c/kg, reaching a top of $941 to average $802.

Trafford Park Grazing, Trafford Park, Wallumbilla sold Santa Gertrudis cross steers sold to 354c/kg, reaching a top of $1,043 to average $1,043.

S & R Benham, Talana, Roma sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 352c/kg, reaching a top of $1,119 to average $1,119.  The Droughtmaster cross heifers sold to 250c/kg, reaching a top of $700 to average $700.

Melinda Downs Pty Ltd, Melinda Downs, Cloncurry sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 348c/kg, reaching a top of $1,214 to average $1,004.

RE & Ed Smith, Marranoonbah, Condobolin sold Brangus steers to 342c/kg, reaching a top of $1,230 to average $1,033.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 312c/kg and averaged 249c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 311c/kg and averaged 258c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 346c/kg, averaging 280c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 346c/kg, averaging 287c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 275c/kg, averaging 245c/kg.

Torres Park Grazing Co., Torres Park, Augathella sold Santa Gertrudis cross heifers to 296c/kg, reaching a top of $978 to average $777.

Huckitta Enterprises Pty Ltd, Huckitta Station, Alice Springs sold Charolais cross heifers to 292c/kg, reaching a top of $1,082 to average $812.

KSE Farming, Nellyvale, Fords Bridge, sold Charolais cross heifers to 275c/kg, reaching a top of $1,166 to average $946.

Cows in the 330-400kg range reached 194c/kg and averaged 149c/kg. Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 210c/kg, averaging 174c/kg. Cows in the 500-600kg range topped at 216c/kg, averaging 204c/kg. Cows over 600kg topped at 205c/kg, averaging 202c/kg.
