Roma sale 4 Apr 2023: Steers 10-20c dearer

A further drop of 2,000 head saw numbers at 3,600 at Roma this week.

Overall quality was good with large consignments from NSW and some from South Australia continuing to be penned.

All the usual buyers were present and active and most categories of steers were 10-20c dearer.

Increased numbers of light weight restocker steers in plain condition saw prices lift 28c to 542.2c to average 473c/kg.

Restocker steers 280 to 330kg sold to 488.2c averaging 426c and restocker steers 330 to 400kg made to 428.2c/kg.

Medium feeder steers held firm making to 410c to average 380c and heavy feeder steers lifted by 9c selling to 418.2c to average 364c/kg.

Light weight restocker heifers were firm to slightly dearer this week with the top price to 372c averaging 338c while medium weight feeder heifers sold to 332c to average 323c/kg. Restockers paid up to 368.2c for those returning to the paddock.

Heavy grown steers to the processor made to 311.2 to average 305c, while heavy prime heifers made to 305c to average 285c/kg.

Medium weight cows were firm on last week selling to 260c averaging 250c, however heavy prime cows over 520kg eased 7c selling to 270c to average 260c/kg.

Red tag PTIC heifers sold to $1760/head and heifers and calves made to $2100/unit.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 540c/kg and averaged 503c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 542c/kg and averaged 456c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 488c/kg and averaged 399c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 428c/kg and averaged 367c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topping at 418c/kg and averaging 362c/kg.

Malcolm Burey, Back Creek, Amby sold Charolais cross steers to 512c/kg reaching a top of $1,331 to average $1,247.

RD Pastoral, Richmond Downs, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 498c/kg, reaching a top of $1,400 to average $1,254. The Angus cross heifers sold to 354c/kg, reaching a top of $952 to average $822.

Stinson Pastoral Co., Amby sold Angus cross steers to 488c/kg, reaching a top of $1,454 to average $1,330.

LJ & SA Schelberg, Dumfries, Muckadilla sold Angus cross steers to 484c/kg, reaching a top of $1,115 to average $1,115.

C & S Tindall, Nickavilla Station, Quilpie sold Angus cross steers to 476c/kg, reaching a top of $1,465 to average $1,258.

J.A. & P.A. Ey, Lirambenda, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 460c/kg, reaching a top of $1,242 to average $1,242. The Angus cross heifers sold to 336c/kg, reaching a top of $823 to average $823.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 376c/kg and averaged 355c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 372c/kg and averaged 328c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 360c/kg, averaging 320c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 368c/kg, averaging 317c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 336c/kg, averaging 310c/kg.
