Roma store sale 28 April 2020: Prices up in 7147 head yarding

TopX Roma agent Sarah Packer with a pen of McAuley heifers which sold to 320c/kg, reaching a top of $945 to average $794. The steers sold to 368c/kg, reaching a top of $1,380 to average $1,203.

Cattle numbers fell slightly, down by 353 head to a total yarding of 7,147 at the Roma Store Sale.

Cattle drawn from North and North Western Queensland continue to be present in numbers dominating yarding, and steers accounted for over half of the cattle yarded.

A larger panel of buyers that included an increase in feedlot and southern buyers was present and all were operating.

Agents advise that the overall quality of the yarding was good and included an increase in heavier cattle this week.

Prices were mostly improved across all categories including all cows.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers sold to a top of 448.2c to average 396c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers reached 456.2c to average 395c/kg. The largest sample of medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers reached 426.2c to average 388c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 390.2c to average 357c, while heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed sold to 342.2c to average 334c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg made to 448.2c to average 336c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 404.2c to average 340c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed reached a top of 385.2c to average 323c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed made to 369.2c to average 301c/kg. Medium weight cows sold to 268.2c to average 247c, while the heavy weight cows made to 265.2c to average 251c/kg.

Heavy weight bulls made to 298.2c to average 278c/kg.

The best of the cow and calf units sold to $1,825/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 456c/kg and averaged 408c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 434c/kg and averaged 384c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 426c/kg and averaged 358c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 388c/kg and averaged 346c/kg.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 356c/kg and averaging 319c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $1,825/unit.
