Yarding 5400 Change -700

Numbers dipped to 5,400 head at Roma this week. Cattle were mostly drawn from local areas including two feature consignments of medium weight yearling heifers. Overall quality was good and additional buyers from NSW and the Central Highlands helped keep the market strong to slightly dearer for the quality penned.

Light weight restockers steers made to 726.2c to average 703c, medium weight restocker steers sold to 672.2c with most around 611c/kg. Heavy weight feeder steers lifted to 588.2c to average 517c/kg.

The buyers gallery was packed for the annual turnoff of heifers from two local breeders this week. The run of 400 heifers were pre-weighed and sold open auction with the lead pen topping at $3,800/head for 365kg or 1,041c/kg with an average of approximately $3,020/head. Light weight restocker heifers sold to 646.2c to average 540c/kg. Restockers paid up to 672.2c for medium weight heifers. Heavy weight heifers to feed sold to 510.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers saw a lift in numbers this week with steers over 600kg making to 427.2c to average 418c/kg. Medium weight cows 400 to 520kg sold to 375.2c to average 362c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows over 520kg held firm selling to 399.2c to average 381c/kg. Light weight bulls sold to restockers for 740.2c/kg.

A total of 5,404 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 726c/kg and averaged 654c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 726c/kg and averaged 606c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 672c/kg and averaged 549c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topping at 588c/kg and averaging 500c/kg.

Heifers under 200kg topped at 600c/kg and averaged 559c/kg, while heifers in the 200-280kg range topped at 646c/kg and averaged 535c/kg. Heifers in the 280-330kg range topped at 628c/kg, averaging 505c/kg. Heifers in the 330-400kg range topped at 590c/kg, averaging 478c/kg. Heifers in the 400-500kg range topped at 510c/kg, averaging 454c/kg.
