Roma store sale 10 Sep 2019: Dry conditions drive bigger yarding

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area but the yarding also included cattle from western Queensland.

The overall quality of the yarding was varied, reflective of the widespread dry season.

A good buyer panel was present however not all processors were operating. Steers continue to dominate the yarding.

Prices mostly eased across the yarding however quality lines continued to sell to firm demand in isolated patches.

Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg fell by 4c to 17c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg fell by 15c to 20c and heavy weight yearling steers fell by 2c to 30c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers under 280kg fell by 3c to 16c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg fell by 3c to 26c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows fell by 7c while the heavy weight 3 score cows fell by 2c/kg and the heavy weight 4 score cows remained unchanged. Lightweight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 308.2c to average 285c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to background or feed sold to 310.2c to average 284c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 286c to average 274c while heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 296.2c to average 285c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers to restockers sold to 244.2c to average 213c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed or background made to 246.2c to average 213c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed sold to 244.2c to average 229c while a fair number of quality heavy weight yearling heifers reached 292.2c to average 258c/kg.

The best of the limited numbers of grown steers sold to 292.2c to average 272c/kg. Heavy weight grown heifers reached a top of 284.2c to average 258c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows sold to 190.2c to average 172c while medium weight 3 score cows made to 228.2c to average 211c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 235.2c to average 223c and the heavy weight 4 score cows made to 247.2c to average 243c/kg. The best of the bulls made to 265.2c to average 261c/kg.

Weekly Roma saleyard report

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 284c/kg and averaged 238c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 310c/kg and averaged 260c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 310c/kg and averaged 260c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 286c/kg and averaged 255c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 304c/kg and averaging 270c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $650/unit.

Bruce Smith, Coleraine, Mitchell sold Angus cross steers to 304c/kg, reaching a top of $1,594 to average $1,437. The Santa cross heifers sold to 292c/kg, reaching a top of 1,379 to average $1,163.

Bindango Pty Ltd, Bindango, Roma sold Charolais cross steers to 296c/kg, reaching a top of $1,421 to average $1,374.

MA, PJ, CP & JF Attard, Shingle Hut, Moura sold Angus steers to 292c/kg, reaching a top of $953 to average $818.

Boxvale Cattle Co, Boxvale, Taroom sold Angus cross steers to 284c/kg, reaching a top of $882 to average $824.

BB & AM Cameron, Waikola, Wallumbilla sold Charolais cross steers to 282c/kg, reaching a top of $1,613 to average $1,296.

PJ & ME Brennan, For Far, Mitchell sold Charbray cross steers to 276c/kg, reaching a top of $951 to average $758.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 228c/kg and averaged 178c/kg, while heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 244c/kg and averaged 201c/kg.

Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 246c/kg, averaging 216c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 270c/kg, averaging 232c/kg.

RH & RJ West, Roleen, Wallumbilla sold Hereford cross heifers to 253c/kg, reaching a top of $930 to average $770.

KE & DE Donner, Boxvale, Taroom sold Santa cross heifers to 244c/kg, reaching a top of $736 to average $615.

G & G Burey, Springhill, Amby sold Charolais cross heifers to 240c/kg, reaching a top of $741 to average $561.

KEG & RM Burey, Yarara, St George sold Santa cross heifers to 218c/kg, reaching a top of $683 to average $683.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 200c/kg and averaged 133c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 228c/kg and averaged 185c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 247c/kg, averaging 221c/kg.

John & Lyn Hudson, Dundee, Morven sold Cross breed cows to 241c/kg, reaching a top of $1,432 to average $1,272.

RG & B Mobbs, Wallambank, Bollon sold Charolais cross cows to 235c/kg, reaching a top of $1,427 to average $1,155. $1,241.
