Roma store sale 26 Feb 2019: Prices back in 7900 head yarding

Landmark agent Rod Turner with Ben Whip, Struan, Roma and Kirsten Whip, Brisbane with the Angus cross heifers. The heifers sold to 212c/kg, reaching a top of $799 to average $521.

Cattle were primarily drawn from the local supply area, where dry conditions continue to prevail.

A good panel of buyers was present and operating. Young cattle, including calves, dominated the yarding and the quality was mixed. Prices eased further from last week across most categories.

Light weight steers under 280kg to restockers eased 12c to 14c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed decreased 14c to 15c, while the medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed eased 10c/kg. Heavy weight steers to feed decreased 15c/kg.

Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers eased 8c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers decreased by 10c and the medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed eased by 6c/kg.

There were limited grown steers and heifers yarded.

Medium weight 2 score cows decreased 9c, while medium weight 3 score cows eased 5c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows decreased by 7c/kg.

Calves made to 262.2c to average 224c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to a top of 268.2c to average 244c/kg. A good sample of medium weight yearling steers weighing 280-330kg to feed made to 266.2c to average 247c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers weighing 330-400kg to feed made to 271.2c to average 253c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 276.2c to average 253c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 207.2c to average 199c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers weighing 280-330kg to restockers made to 250.2c to average 202c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers weighing 330-400kg to feed made to 220c to average 201c/kg. Heavy weight grown heifers sold to a top of 236.2c to average 218c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows sold to a top of 181.2c to average 149c, while the medium weight 3 score cows made to 223.2c to average 200c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 223.2c to average 209c/kg. Heavy weight bulls sold to a top of 269.2c to average 256c/kg.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 262c/kg and averaged 232c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 268c/kg and averaged 232c/kg.

Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 271c/kg and averaged 240c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 271c/kg and averaged 247c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 276c/kg and averaging 250c/kg.

Cows and calves hit $520/unit.

TI & JL York, Hyde Park, Wallumbilla sold Simmental cross steers to 270c/kg, reaching a top of $1,474 to average $1,344.

JW Blackburn, Mt Bindango, Roma sold Charbray steers to 268c/kg, reaching a top of $935 to average $686. The Charbray heifers sold to 194c/kg, reaching a top of $491 to average $491.

Institutional Investments P/L, Struan, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 266c/kg, reaching a top of $993 to average $744. The Angus cross heifers sold to 212c/kg, reaching a top of $799 to average $521.

Derbyshire Downs Pastoral Co Pty Ltd, Derbyshire Downs, Augathella sold Angus steers to 262c/kg, reaching a top of $590 to average $523.

Kindee Pastoral Co, Muya, Mitchell sold Charolais cross steers to 260c/kg, reaching a top of $1181 to average $950.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 208c/kg and averaged 183c/kg, while heifers in the 220 – 280kg range topped at 208c/kg and averaged 171c/kg.

Heifers in the 280- 350kg range topped at 250c/kg, averaging 190c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 236c/kg, averaging 209c/kg.

Brah-Lim Cattle Co Pty Ltd, Boondoon, Charleville sold Brahman cross heifers to 223c/kg, reaching a top of $1,015 to average $835.

RBE & EN Cloherty, Reben Downs, Injune sold Santa heifers to 220c/kg, reaching a top of $772 to average $683. Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 150c/kg and averaged 100c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 211c/kg and averaged 145c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 223c/kg, averaging 190c/kg
