Roma store sale 24 Sep 2019: Prices fluctuate in smaller yarding

Cattle numbers fell sharply, down by 3319 head to 3573 head at the Roma Store sale.

Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area and the overall quality of the yarding varied.

There were limited runs of large single vendor lines yarded and heifers dominated the yarding this week. A smaller buyer panel was present and operating selectively.

Prices fluctuated with the lighter yearling cattle easing while the medium weight to heavy weight end saw improvements for both steers and heifers.

Cows and bulls also both improved in places.

The largest sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg rose by 9c/kg. The majority of medium weight yearling steers under 330kg rose by 5c to 11c/kg.

The limited number of heavy weight yearling steers rose by 11c to 22c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg mostly rose by 3c to 25c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg rose by 3c to 16c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg rose by 4c to 8c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows rose by 6c to 9c, while medium weight 3 score cows rose by 5c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows rose by 7c/kg. The largest sample of light weight bulls rose by 36c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 294.2c to average 274c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed or background sold to 290.2c to average 277c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 296.2c to average 283c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed sold to 291.2c to average 290c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 276.2c to average 227c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed or background sold to 256.2c to average 224c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed sold to 250.2c to average 232c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg to slaughter sold to 274.2c to average 270c/kg. There were limited numbers of grown steers yarded. The largest sample of grown heifers sold to 271.2c to average 242c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows sold to 200c to average 192c while the medium weight 3 score cows sold to 228.2c to average 217c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows sold to 226.2c to average 218c/kg. Medium weight bulls sold to a top of 292.2c to average 275c/kg.

Weekly Roma saleyard report

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 286c/kg and averaged 237c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 294c/kg and averaged 266c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 291c/kg and averaged 266c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 296c/kg and averaged 284c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 298c/kg and averaging 276c/kg. Cows and calves hit $720/unit.

AR Roberts, Tantatton, Wallumbilla sold Blonde D Aquitaine steers to 298c/kg, reaching a top of $1,812 to average $1,697. The Blonde D Aquitaine heifers sold to 256c/kg, reaching a top of $871 to average $724.

Barry Reid, Roma sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 296c/kg, reaching a top of $1,165 to average $1,165.

Russell Ian Mocker, Surprise, St George sold Santa steers to 294c/kg, reaching a top of $803 to average $654.

Ringport Pty Ltd, Kurrajong, Drillham sold Santa steers to 290c/kg, reaching a top of $975 to average $960.

Wyadrigan Past Co, Nardoo Station, Cunnamulla sold Santa steers to 290c/kg, reaching a top of $846 to average $772. The Santa cross heifers sold to 230c/kg, reaching a top of $629 to average $554.

JE & JL Creevey, Lucknow, Augathella sold Charbray steers to 284c/kg, reaching a top of $980 to average $760.

Wellesley Pastoral Co, Wellesley, Surat sold Euro cross steers to 284c/kg, reaching a top of $893 to average $800.

Dalmally Grazing Co, Dalmally, Roma sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 261c/kg, reaching a top of $899 to average $778.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 214c/kg and averaged 167c/kg, while heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 252c/kg and averaged 202c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 256c/kg, averaging 211c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 260c/kg, averaging 227c/kg. WJ, WJ, NO & B Hartley,

Bowen Downs, Aramac sold Brangus cross heifers to 274c/kg, reaching a top of $1,325 to average $1,096.

Derbyshire Downs Pastoral Co Pty Ltd, Derbyshire Downs, Augathella sold Charolais cross heifers to 271c/kg, reaching a top of $1,400 to average $1,400.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 205c/kg and averaged 167c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 260c/kg and averaged 196c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 228c/kg, averaging 211c/kg.
